Flying atop the violet blade, Shu Yidan thought about the divination.
Honestly speaking, Shu Yidan had expected that the divination to fail outright. In his past life, divination-type techniques were useless against Yang Yi and his allies – they were under Heaven's protection.
But Yang Yi hadn't surfaced yet. Zhang Dufu wasn't under the banner of the world's protagonist yet – he was merely a rapist. He wasn't that type of thorny character like Yang Yi – at Peak Qi Refining, he could probably be solved by Xiaoyi without any surprises.
He was still a fated one with divine fortune for sure – getting a Nascent Soul slave at Qi Refining proved that. You had to know, Nascent Soul cultivators couldn't have their souls easily dominated – they were inhuman existences who lived in the timeframe of centuries, existences who had transcended mortality.
Even with a treasure capable of dominating the Nascent Soul, you would need to attack at the moment of extreme weakness. And even then, the Nascent Soul might flee by abandoning their body, or even outright commit suicide via self-destruction.
Shu Yidan had captured two Nascent Souls himself, but he hadn't dominated their wills. He could cleanse their souls to refine them into puppets or cauldrons or whatever, for only White Lotus were suited to soul domination.
In any case, at Zhang Dufu's level, a Nascent Soul subordinate meant invincibility. He could murder, rob and rape as he pleased… facing anyone of a lower cultivation level, he would be more or less unrivalled.
Well, it seemed that Zhang Dufu hadn't clued onto that yet. Shu Yidan didn't know when he would, but it would be best to eliminate the scourge before it began.
Still, Shu Yidan didn't believe that he still had more fortune left – enslaving a Nascent Soul at Qi Refining was fucking ridiculous. From the divination, Zhang Dufu had an inheritance from Mountbatten - which should be rightfully Xiaoyi's.
Maybe Zhang Dufu had used up his luck, going from protagonist to a cannon-fodder fated for Xiaoyi's sword?
But, Shu Yidan had no idea where Zhang Dufu was. That said, he had a pretty easy way to find out.
Half-step Void Refinings weren't fucking cabbages, after all.
Shu Yidan knew most of the prominent cultivators of this era. That old guy from Zhang Dufu's sect must have been pretty low-key, or he might have died early enough that his name didn't spread.
After all, the Zhang Dufu from Shu Yidan's memories was a loose, solitary cultivator – and that meant that either he had left his sect… or his sect had left him.
As it could be guessed, a den of rapists would suffer extreme persecution from literally anyone with a good head on their shoulders.
In any case, while Shu Yidan didn't know of the mystery half-step Void Refining, his dear Sect Master might…

Having returned to the sect, Shu Yidan slowly sipped tea that was attentively brewed by the beauty before him. Mu Rengxue had invited him into her cultivation residence for a chat.
"Oh, the Sect Master is meeting some guests, huh? I wanted to pass onto him something important. Rengxue, can you do me a favor and transmit this jade slip to him?" Shu Yidan asked Mu Rengxue with a smile.
"…Alright. I am curious about what is so important, but I don't need to find out." Shaking her head, his father's disciple accepted the jade slip before making it disappear with a spell.
"Nothing much – just a divination that shines light upon something that might help Xiaoyi a little. Basically, a guy from a dual cultivation-based sect got his hands on an inheritance penned by Xiaoyi's ancestor…" Shu Yidan explained everything clearly.
"Mu Rengxue seemed a little surprised at the easy answer. "So you are running errands for that kid's sake again, huh… You know, I kind of suspect you are trying to raise her for nefarious ends… But still, even though you have a Dao Companion and more, that poor kid probably won't have a better choice for a lover than you. That doesn't mean I approve, though…"
Shu Yidan spat out tea at that.
"I am not into kids, especially the hopeless types that have muscles for brains! I like women with charisma…-" Realizing that Mu Rengxue's words sent him to an unexpected tangent, Shu Yidan immediately stopped speaking.
For her part, Mu Rengxue looked at him with a startled gaze before ignoring his words. "…Anyway, you want the Sect Master to identify the half-step Void Refining cultivator and from that, the sect… Yeah, but what after that? Do you want the Sect Master to shed his dignity to capture a Qi Refining cultivator?"
"…No need to go that far. That guy won't stay put in the sect, so we'll just grab him when he visits a nearby village for some raping and massacring. A Qi Refining cultivator is basically a mortal – giving up on cultivation, leaving the sect and going home isn't unheard of. Even if he dies, well, it is a dual cultivation sect after all – disciples routinely get exterminated after pissing the wrong guy off." Shu Yidan's unconcerned reply got Mu Rengxue to smirk.
"Have to take care of the enthralled Nascent Soul as well – hopefully, they'll hand the task to me. I am getting bored in the library." Mu Rengxue's reply got Shu Yidan to bare his teeth.
"A woman going to fight a guy with a treasure capable of enslaving Nascent Souls – have some self preservation!" Shu Yidan's reply got Mu Rengxue's smirk to widen.
"Glad to see the young master's concern. In any case, the whole matter seems to be easily handled. How is my Dragon Vein Draining Array coming along, then?" Mu Rengxue gave him an expectant gaze.
Shu Yidan mentally shook his head – he hadn't had time to forge that array until now. But since it couldn't do to disappoint Rengxue, he toothily grinned.
"Well, since you offered such a great premium, I wanted to give you my very best work… And naturally, an array meant to be used by you would require your input. So, I wanted to refine it by your side. So how about it, can you spare an hour or two?"
