Capítulo 13: Chapter 13

Ash continued to run as fast as he can out of the forest. When he reached his full speed he was shocked. 'How can I run this fast?' Ash thought. As he was running, all of the individual trees started to merge together and look like solid walls on either side.

Ash ran for what felt like two hours at this fastest speed of his before he saw any change in the scenery. The first thing that he noticed was a thickening of the fog. Ash kept rushing forward and stepped into the fog. The freezing cold and wet feeling briefly returned before he flew out of Wailing Forest. Once out of the forest, Ash saw a wide and flat expanse of land.

Ash didn't feel tired at all from running at full speed for 2 hours so he decided to continue at that pace. He looked around and noticed some other people who had made it out of the forest. Surprisingly, almost all of the humans here had made it through the forest and at an even pace with him. Ash also noticed that quite a few people still hadn't made it out or maybe even left their lives in the forest forever.

After Ash took out his map, he noticed that this flat expanse of land led to the next landmark. According to the map it was an absolutely enormous mountain. At the top of the mountain was supposedly a portal that was to lead to Purgatory. This was also as far as his map went. No other landmarks existed that Ash could see.

Suddenly in front of Ash, someone from one of two groups close together suddenly attacked one of the members of the other group! The person who attacked was one of the lizard-like humanoids. This particular one was a light shade of green, which really stood out on top of the red earth. He had short but sharp claws growing out of his hands in place of fingernails. He used one of his clawed hands and swiped at one of the draconians.

Unlike the lizard man, draconians had scales that covered certain parts of their bodies. They covered the chest, down the stomachs, and their foreheads. This draconian was a much darker shade of green than the lizard man. The claws growing out of his hands were also longer and sharper.

After the lizard man attacked, both groups slowed down but didn't stop moving. The draconian swiftly dodged to the left and swiveled around to face the lizard man. One of its dark red claws appeared in between them. Ash was paying close attention to this fight. He had no idea of anything about this new world of his so Ash wanted to take the time to find out some things.

Suddenly, the dark red claws of the draconian closed into a fist. When the claws reopened each one was covered in fire! All of this happened in the blink of an eye as the claw continued on its trajectory! The lizard man wasn't fast enough to dodge the claw so instead he held up his arms in a cross shape to cover his chest. Unfortunately for the lizard man, he just wasn't strong enough. The flaming draconian claws tore through the arms like paper and entered into the lizard man's chest. The lizard man fell to the ground with flames covering his wounds yet no one from the groups stopped to help him.

Ash, like the rest of them, continued on his way. Although Ash was shocked, he knew that there were a lot of amazing things in this world and something like flaming claws on a draconic humanoid was within his acceptable range of thought. 'After all, I have my own special ability.' Ash thought. By the time he ran for another few hours without being tired, he spotted a mountain in the distance. Although the word 'mountain' would be underestimating it...

Although he could see the mountain in the distance it only continued to get bigger and bigger but not any closer. Other small skirmishes kept happening along the way as they got closer to the mountain. Ash started to see a pattern among the different races. The lizard men and draconians clearly hated each other the most. The few ghosts there were seemed to dislike the humans and the gargoyles. Besides being attacked, the humans mostly didn't dare to attack the other groups. Unlike most groups though, the humans all helped each other out. Fortunately for Ash, no one really took notice of him until now.

Ash was passing about a meter from another draconian when suddenly he dodged to the right as fast as he could. This draconian was a deep blue color and had the same sharp and long claws as the others. Another thing Ash noticed was that all draconians had very deep and dark colors unlike the much lighter colored lizard people.

Ash had barely dodged in time before a flaming blue claw appeared where he just was. Cold sweat formed on Ash's back as he started to panic. Ash had never been in a fight before even with both previous lives. If he hadn't dodged in time... Ash started to have flashbacks about the flames covering the armless lizard man.

Ash did the only thing he could think of. He activated his ability. It felt really strange. There wasn't any special procedure, Ash just thought about it and all of the sudden he felt an excruciating pain in his chest. It was like something was being torn out from him, ripping away a part of his very being. Immediately afterwards, Ash saw an exact copy of himself appear out of nowhere.

As soon as his shadow clone appeared, it attacked the draconian. The shadow clone had an equal amount of power as the original body and could take the same amount of damage. The shadow clone took a step towards the draconian and threw out a fist. The draconian looked like it was shocked to see the shadow clone and quickly put up his arms to block the incoming punch. There was no technique involved with the attack and no special ability like the flaming claws, but when the attack landed, Ash heard the sound of bone snapping.

The draconian was even more shocked than before and probably would have let out an angry scream if he could talk. Ash was even more shocked than the draconian though! 'I had no idea I was this strong!' After being assured that he stood a fighting chance against the draconian, he followed in the steps of the shadow clone. The draconian's left arm was hanging limp towards the ground and the flames were extinguished. It started to panic a bit as both Ash and the shadow clone attacked from both sides. The draconian decided to use his remaining arm to attack the shadow clone while ignoring Ash, probably because it thought that only the clone had that amount of power. It swung its remaining claw towards the shadow clone's face while the clone ducked and punched toward the draconian's stomach. At this point, Ash had positioned himself to the side of the draconian.

Unfortunately the draconian didn't know that the shadow clone was only as strong as the main body. Ash suddenly felt a moment of clarity in all of the panic. Suddenly it felt as if time had slowed down yet Ash remained the same. There was no panic, no fear, only one feeling remained. Anger.

Ash was angry at this draconian. 'I was minding my own business and this dumb lizard wanted to pick a fight?! How dare you!' Ash felt outraged. When these thoughts entered his head, a formless aura started to appear around him. This aura was one containing absolute rage and a deep rooted arrogance that stemmed from his very soul. 'I survived two other lifetimes and died for no reason in both. I'm not about to die again, and to a freaking dragon turd at that!!' He thought. Only a few seconds had passed during his thoughts while the draconian had yet to recover from trying to attack the shadow clone.

During this moment, Ash gathered his hand into a fist while the draconian had been alerted by Ash's aura. Ash aimed his fist towards the draconian's side, just under the arm, while it did everything it could to turn around and block. Ash's punch connected with the remaining uninjured arm and the same sound of bone cracking appeared. At the same time, another punch landed from the shadow clones attack onto the back of the draconian. It spasmed for a moment then crumpled to the ground.

This whole time they had kept running. It wasn't until the draconian dropped to the ground that Ash finally slowed down. He wasn't physically tired or even hurt from the fight but he was mentally exhausted. A thought appeared in his mind. 'I just killed someone...? Or something...?' Ash didn't feel much about it. He only felt a kind of emptiness and then anger once again. He kept jogging for a bit while he calmed down and then resumed his full sprint into the distance. The mountain was closer than ever now.
