Sooooooooo this chapter isn't a chapter. Which is why it is in the Auxiliary section. This is a brief explanation of everything that in the story and how it all relates to the real world.
Also this is only a small part of things, I will expand more on other styles and such at a later time, but this is more to clarify a few creative choices I have made in creating this world and the powers within it.
Firstly, I want to say a little about who I am.
I'm a writer, dancer, choreographer and foodie, hehe.
I have been an avid listener of KPOP since I was in high school.
I was originally from New Zealand but I moved over to Germany to live with my wife.
And, of course, I'm an ARMY fanboy(yes, we exist haha).
SO with that out of the way, let's talk about the world.
So a lot of the themes behind everything, the powers and the fighting styles are all directly attached to how music and performances in general work. I took how each art style works and applied them to a magical based system.
I do explain some of these things in the story and the author notes, but I wanted to go a little more in depth here. SPOILER ALERT!!!
Firstly, Magic-Channelling.
As you know by now(if you have read the first chapter) Magic-Channelling is my worlds version of rapping. I took the key aspects of rap and hip hop and did my best to apply those things to the world. Rap is Rhythm and Poetry. So I took that and created a system of channelling the power of your Energy Flux(Rhythm) and casting your power through the useage of Word's(poetry(kinda self explanatory haha)). And that was how I created that style. There is the whole Hip Hop culture part of rap, but I'll touch on that later.
Next, Battle Mages.(Spoiler Alert!)
So these are the dancers of my world(WOOP WOOP). Now being a dancer and choreographer myself, I though a lot about the best way to incorporate this. Obviously a dancer uses their bodies, so I made them as the physical warriors in the world. Still tapping into the Energy Flux(rhythm) but they manifest their powers on their bodies or through specialized tools.
Synergy Weapons are tools used to bring out the Battle Mages dances. Infused with a Synergy Crystal, the Battle Mage can release new and more powerful attacks once they learn to utilize the energy within the crystal.
Synergy Weapons are a dancers style/groove whereas Synergy Crystals are the choreography.
Now when I say Style/Groove, that may be confusing to some people. And I tried to explain it in the Author's notes in the Chapter Your Angel, but there wasn't enough space.
But as I said, one's style and groove are what separates dancers. Even with the same moves, everyone will do it differently as they will incorporate their own style to the piece.
For example. J-Hope and Jimin have very different styles. You can see them do the same choreography, but it will be slightly different. Whereas Hobi has a strong, hard hitting and sharp style, Jimin is light, flowy and flexible. Jimin floats and flows through the beat where Hobi hits the beat hard.
So in that, one's style and groove becomes something important to a dancer. Which is why you can see subtle differences when BTS does their choreography. It is the same moves, but executed differently.
Now I'm going to leave the other things for a later time, I'd rather not spoil things just yet hahaha.
But I do want to talk about Hip Hop and the Idol culture.
This is probably one of the biggest things I had to think about when I created the story. I understand the Hip Hop and Underground culture a lot and knew that I wanted to do my best to have it properly represented in the story. All of the good, the bad and the ugly.
There are many stigmas(lol) attached to different aspects of Hip Hop Artists(Renegade Adepts) and being an Idol(Eidos). I try to address a few of these things and tried my best to create the world in a way where they are represented well. Now I will say that as it is a story, I have added aspects and dramatized pieces of it to fit the story, but overall it isn't that far from the truth. It is very accurate to how a lot of people view Hip Hop and Idols and also how things really are.
But in the end, it is all just my creative take on things, so don't take it too seriously haha.
Lastly, I want to talk about the story itself.
Now having been a fan since pre debut and studying a lot about their history, I wanted to make their story as accurate to their real story as possible. I obviously added things like dialogue and such, and to add the whole magic aspect to everything, but I tried to keep the order and history of events as close to reality as possible. I remember thinking "why don't I just start the story from when they are all together." But I quickly knew that I couldn't.
Knowing their stories, their struggles, their hurts and pain. How could I skip past all those things just to write a nice story? That would be disrespectful to the events that helped shape and mould them into who they are. So that is why I wrote it the way I did.
In saying that, I know and acknowledge that I do include artists with controversial histories and such. I in no way endorse or support any of their actions or thoughts, I do not agree with what they have said and done. I do not believe that they should be idolized in anyway.
However, they do have a part in BTS history. The collection of interactions and circumstances are what helps shape and mould a person. So with these interactions, BTS became the people they are. Yes they probably don't agree with what they do, but that doesn't mean they don't know them. Controversy is no reason to erase history. I wanted to write this story not only as a creative outlet and as a way to show my love towards BTS, but it is also a tribute to BTS journey.
I could've easily made the story happy, start it now where they are successful and amazing, but that would be a spit in the face of all the hard work, the training and the struggles they went through to get to where they are now. This is the main reason for this story. To show their amazing journeys from nobodies to the largest kpop group in the world currently.
I'll write another one of these things later when I need to explain more stuff. Please feel free to comment things I should add. Also if I am inaccurate in any way(which I will be, I'm human) then don't hesitate to call me out on that.
Love Yourself. Love Myself.
