Morral did not like the female that had joined their miserable company. She looked at her too coldly, spoke too harshly, and overall gave her the impression that she was crueler than her original captor, if that was even possible.
She did learn a couple of things by eavesdropping on the two demons though. When she had woken up that first day and quickly realized there was a newcomer, she had closed her eyes again and pretended to be asleep for 20 more minutes. During that time, she had found out that the two demons had names. Her captor was called Bremig and the female demon's name was Sheeda.
Sheeda looked older than Bremig and she had plenty of horrendous stories that she shared with him when she thought Morral was not listening.
"You think abducting a girl from Selgonfield is hard?" she huffed one night, her burning eyes fixed on Morral's still body. "I killed a Slorigan a few days ago!"
"Was it a boy in training?" Bremig mocked her.
Sheeda's voice turned to steel. It had taken Morral all of one day to find out how competitive she was. "A grown warrior!" she growled. "With one of those spears they use to make it rain!"
"Did he use it?" asked Bremig in disbelief.
"I didn't let him..." The cunning smile in Sheeda's voice made Morral shiver.
She pretended that she was trying to get comfortable in her sleep to cover up her movement, but Sheeda's apt attention was already on her.
"Do you think there are more where she came from?" she asked Bremig in a whisper.
"That village?"
"Her family, idiot."
"I don't know. I didn't attack her home. I was burning a school when she showed up."
"Did you ask her?"
"Yes, she wouldn't say."
"Maybe you weren't convincing enough."
"I almost choked her. It wasn't gonna risk killing her."
Morral winced at the memory. It had been right before they had left Paldagor for good. The demon had lingered in the area for a few hours, trying to get her to give up the number and identities of her siblings, but when it had become clear that she would rather die than tell him, he had quit and set off for Granza with just her in tow.
Sheeda and Bremig remained quiet for a while, but Morral could sense the female demon thinking hard.
"It doesn't matter whether she has siblings or not. She can still have babies."
"Huh?" Bremig sounded as confused as Morral felt.
"Think, idiot. Her siblings would only be half-bloods like her, but if she had children with a Fire Demon, they would be three parts demon and only one human."
"You mean..." Bremig trailed off.
"The Blood Moon is in eleven months. Humans can have babies in nine months."
"She could have babies after her transformation too."
"Not with special Fire Powers." Sheeda paused for a moment. "What is her power?" she asked after a few seconds in a whisper.
"Don't know," muttered Bremig.
"She probably doesn't either." Morral suddenly felt Sheeda's gaze on her. It was sharper than ever. "Anyway, she might as well be of use while she waits for her transformation," the demon concluded evilly.
