Halloween huh? I just hope that the canon is really changed, not that it is blindly followed, there are already several fics that never change the events even when they are totally different, I just hope that in this fic the troll event change, since Neville already knows that certain things will happen then it would prevent Hermione from going to the bathroom and everything that causes the golden trio to meet would happen, just by making Neville an addition, the butterfly effect would act when Hermione has a certain friendship with Neville and then Ron's words would not affect her as much as in canon, Neville even defending her in the act
It was Halloween at Hogwarts, and the castle was alive with a festive atmosphere. The corridors near the Great Hall were filled with the mouth-watering scent of baked pumpkin, blending perfectly with the crisp autumn air. The enchanted ceilings flickered with floating candles, casting a warm, flickering light over the castle.

So, what do we have here, an issue? It’s really frustrating that this fanfic keeps almost everything the same as the canon, especially when there are moments that could’ve been handled differently, even though the author knows what’s coming. First, the whole Hermione and the troll situation: a lot changed, but in the end, nothing really changed. Then there’s the forest scene, where Neville stops Hermione from going, but doesn’t prevent them from separating. At the very least, he could’ve argued how dangerous it was for first-years, trying to track down whoever’s hunting unicorns, to raise some awareness for Hagrid. And even more so, bringing Fang, who Hagrid himself acknowledges as a coward, which makes the whole situation even riskier I really want to like it, but the story doesn't change much from the original, and it's hard to get involved when it feels so similar.
Madam Pomfrey nodded grimly. "Yes, I can confirm that. There are signs of the curse on his nervous system," she said, waving her wand over Neville with a gentle swirl of light. "It's not permanent—he wasn't under it for very long—but it will leave lingering effects. He'll need rest and potions for the pain."
