I know what you mean, I haven't personally been put to the test and I don't think anyone can really give their opinion (unless one of the readers is a reincarnated OC) but I quite agree with the reflection and I want to emphasize that in the sequel to Aegon Snow we will see that even if he has a lot of grudges he is smart enough to move on.
