In the scene where Alduin is sent back in time, it is stated that Alduin "cannot be slain like a lesser dragon" - A statement spoken by one of the few who knew Dragonrend and the reason why he had to be sent forward in time. Yes, he will be mortal, but a mortal god is still a god and stabbing him won't end well, look at Gormlaith Golden-Hilt as an example of why stabbing Alduin isn't a valid option even if he was made "mortal".

The heart scale was different than what he faintly remembered from the game. It was not located externally like all the other scales. Instead, the heart scales were found on the inner part of the spine near where the dragon's heart was located. As a dragon aged, these scales would grow until they encapsulated the heart once a dragon reached full maturity. They did not impede the hearts functions in anyways, but their strength and durability would act as an additional layer of protection, like the ribcage did to other organs. This made targeting the heart of a mature dragon ineffective.

Thanks for the chapter :) I wonder if the MC could enchant a couch with strong Fortify Magicka and Magicka Regen enchants to assist in spell casting and call it the "Casting Couch" :)
