I like that the Bandit leader is not a stupid OneNote character and can think.

"I... I thought it would have been a good catch," the man stammered, his voice barely audible. Leather's frustration grew as he struggled to comprehend the man's reckless decision. He knew that their survival depended on maintaining a low profile, and this impulsive act had jeopardized everything they had worked so hard for. "Yeah, a 'good catch,'" Leather spat, his fury unabated. "And in exchange, you have drawn the king's ire toward us. Do you not even realize what you have done? You've destroyed our calm. Now, all I did to make sure we could live here without worrying too much about persecution from the state, has been sent to horse-shit. Do you understand the consequences of your reckless actions? The damn crown's dogs will be set on us, and you are so foolish, you did not even realize."

she is admitting that her husband is going around murdering people in the open for advantage, and where does that stop the king the prince the Lord's. that maybe problematic in the future when building trust.

"I wouldn't claim that either," Laena shook her head. "It's more of a situation where he… forced my father into the match. Initially, I was betrothed to the son of the Sealord, but their family faced financial ruin, leaving my own house ensnared in a perpetual postponement of the marriage. My husband unexpectedly intervened by proposing to annul my betrothal by killing my then-betrothed in exchange for marrying me instead. The narrative extends beyond this of course, involving the Stepstones and the alliance forged between his house, mine, and Prince Daemon in the conflict against the Triarchy."

the man is not a time traveler the has not been a civil war in house Targaryen since Maegor. the may be an other great council for all we know?

"I fail to understand you, my son," Bartimos shook his head wearily. "I had presumed this was your desire."

I wonder how old valyria's 40 dragon houses were kept in check or was it tradition like The Roman Republic before the imperial rule.

"That warms my heart, Lord Bartimos," Viserys said with a satisfied smile. "Henceforth, the Valyrians of Blackwater Bay stand united as never before. May this union between our three houses pave the way for a new Valyria in these lands, perhaps even stronger than the Valyria of old."

yeah because now they are invested in house Targaryen and can not undermine it because it will go against their interests .

Viserys nodded, though he had more to add. "However, I also ask that your newborn granddaughter, Rhaena Celtigar, be betrothed to my son, Prince Aemond Targaryen. Just as I sought to unite my house with Lord Corlys, I see this betrothal as a means to strengthen the bonds of kinship between our ancient houses, the last vestiges of Old Valyria. I understand it's an early arrangement, but I intend to see it through to marriage."

wait is she allowed to tell people he killed the son of the former sea lord, no covering of the truth like 'the boy was killed by pirates'? smart lords will known what happened but not all are that Lord Mace Tyrell for example.

Nah just a guy that likes watching epic history videos but thanks for the compliment. yes I have been reading your other story it's a breath of fresh air where MC has no powers and it is realistic/grounded story of fictional history not a lot of those around. (currently at chapter 237)

Turning to address the rest of the slaves, Alpheo spoke with conviction. "Brothers, many of us have suffered for years, enduring whippings and starvation. But that's all behind us now. I was the one who orchestrated our escape, who led us to freedom. Do any of you think you could have done the same? If so, come forward, show me the scars you've earned from this life. Come on, I'll show you mine.
