As far as I could tell he was told by an "in-game" character/monster that he should them irl and that's it. No weird possibilities about special characters or anything? Just straight to this must be more than just a game?

That's a solid end to an arc. A few things wrapped up, a couple new possibilities for conflict, a mysterious motive for the future, and some feel good moments for the loved ones

Really makes me wonder what things in our own history are actually fabricated or twisted. If there was a long lived race that actually saw our own history with their own eyes, what would they say was different

Wrath, Pride, Greed, Lust as concepts are fairly straightforward. I can picture kind of societies based on those sins. I could see Envy being more torturous and probably a bit more insane. Sloth as a demon horde is hard for me to picture, but I can see a mini society based on it, dame with Gluttony. I'm excited to see how you portray them or even if you chose those as your demon tribes
