It was essential in the wilderness, and Karl thought that it probably was in the city as well, but you had to hide it better when you were around so many people. I get these guys are meant to be slackers and “bottom of the barrel” types. But seriously, they still went through at LEAST 4 years of military schooling ending at most 6 years ago. Even if they are technically civilian at this point. They should at the least know the freakin danger of monster filled territory and how to act in a military situation. If they act like this in their day jobs it’s a wonder they have not been fired yet.

Looks like that sword is a life drinking type, wonder if it’s going to have adverse effects.
True, but I get the feeling his next beast is a ways out. To me it kinda feels like he’s supposed to get maybe 1 per rank, to enable him to both support current beasts and a new one of higher potential. And there’s been no sign of his spaces preparing to split into a fourth one yet.
