This is incorrect. Movie Studios take most of the income a movie will make for the first few weeks the movie is released in theaters while slowly increasing the cut of the theater over time. The bigger studios often bully theaters into extra conditions on top of the majority cut in profits. This is why theater snacks are so overpriced. Disney is one of the most notorious for strong arming theaters. they have been known to take up to a 95% cut and force theaters to exclusively play Disney's movies. It has become so bad that playing Disney movies has become unprofitable for many theaters even when the movie is a hit. It is hard to find information on many of the activities Hollywood engages in due to the general secrecy that it instills into everything it does.

Compared with movie releases back on Earth, the box office after the movie's release would see the cinemas take a cut first, and the film studios would only get to see the earnings after they paid the various promotional costs and taxes. So, Sir Weissenasche's proposal was definitely very good.
