Freemasonry seems interesting, Templar knights too, I think these are all interesting topics. in my view, as it's a fantasy novel and already took an alien/meteorite impact caused the zombie apocalypse situation and gave super powers etc.. it might not be far fetched to include Alien civilization, advanced technology, maybe invading earth with zombies to conquer Earth, ancient relics/machines mentioned in conspiracy theories etc..

Let's see what happens without the military. I am not a huge love my country person and it's hard to understand their decision ... For me it seems their reason for leaving was questionable and not smart. the country is done for, the military done almost nothing to help regular people, abused their people and authority... and if they wanted to help their comrades they could have done it differently and in a smarter way... even if they clash with the military later and someone tries to question their loyalty or make them choose between the two factions, the answer to both should be simple... it seems overcomplicated and unnecessary for them to leave plot wise even if we assume they want to change the military from inside to help.. since they have zero power
