Then you throw in a legitimate prophecy that basically means Fate itself says the two of you are gonna fight to the death, so running won't help. If you can figure a way out of that catch twenty two without major plot armor be my guest. And no there was no canon way to remove a horcrux without destroying the container.
For the man was a human who while making mistakes and did plenty of behind the scenes things, he still tries his best. After all, trying to get a teenager who was fairly rebellious like Harry Potter and his two friends to face a foe that even smarter and more experienced wizards fell too. If a curse didn't basically bring him to the end of his life, trying to guide Harry probably would have. Even so, while preparing Harry for what he will face and doing a few questionable things, he still tried to give Harry a somewhat decent life while trying to prepare him for what to come.
