章 4: Issue #4

* Thud!

Scott slammed the door behind him as he stormed into his office.

" What happened?" Scott asked Julian who had been sitting there waiting for him.

" We... I..." Julian stammered. He was scared for his life right now, as he had never seen Scott Summers, the boy scout, of all people get this mad in all of his time at Xaviers.

" You did what?" Scott asked.

" I pushed him over. But I didn't mean too. I only meant to scare a bit, he bumped into me, and I just wanted to teach him a lesson. I never meant to actually hurt him." Julian exclaimed. He frantically explained his side of the story to Scott.

" Are you stupid, Julian? I know how you are. But I didn't think you'd intentionally hurt someone who can't even defend himself. Give me one reason. Just one reason that I shouldn't expel you from this school right now!" Scott yelled.

" Teach, I'm sorry. I mean it. I swear I didn't mean to do it. It won't ever happen again." Julian replied. He was terrified. He loved Xavier's and didn't want to be expelled, especially since he was just named leader of his team the Hellions.

" You better hope nothing happens to that boy, or else you'll be finding yourself on a flight home, and I don't care what Emma says. You have detention for the next four months. After class runs in the danger room with Logan. And you'll clean the hangar every day. I want to see those computers shining. Do you understand me?" Scott asked.

" Yes sir." Julian hung his head and responded.

" Good, Now get out." Scott demanded.

Julian got up from Scott's desk and walked out of his office with his head hung low. Shamed by his actions.

A few hours later, after a long operation, Hank and the others finally finished the surgery on Ian's legs.

" Alright, we're done." Hank exclaimed. He finished up his last stich on Ian's left leg and exhaled a sigh of relief.

" Thank god." Kitty replied. She didn't enjoy performing surgery any more than the next guy, but her powers made it easier to operate.

And Emma's ability to influence the mind, made it so that Ian wasn't in any pain at all throughout the long procedure.

" So, does anyone know what exactly happened? Did he fall?" Kitty asked.

" No, darling. He was pushed." Emma replied.

During the surgery, Scott had reached out to her through their telepathic link and told her or more screamed at her what exactly happened. And needless to say, Emma wasn't all too impressed with her student's actions.

" What? But Ian's well. Ian. Who would push him down?" Hank asked.

" Someone who's in very big trouble. If you'll excuse me, I need to have a talk with one of my students." Emma stated. She turned on her heels and walked out of the operating room without speaking another word.

" Well then. I guess that's that. Kitty, why don't you go rest. I can handle the rest from here." Hank told the girl.

" Are you sure, hank?" Kitty asked.

" Of course. I've got this. You go rest up." Hank told the woman.

Kitty nodded and quickly left the operating room.

" Now then, young man, let's get you some medication." Hank went to his desk and grabbed a couple bottles of morphine and other vials. He then inserted them into the Iv Ian had placed into his arm and watched as the boy's face relaxed.

A few hours later, in the dead of night, Ian awoke.

" Oh." Ian groaned as he sat up from his bed. " Where am I?" Ian asked as he looked around the room.

" My dear boy, you are in the medical wing." Hank spoke up.

Ian looked up to the ceiling and saw Hank was up just hanging up there reading a book. Something he does often when he has nothing else to do.

" Oh, that's right. I fell and... I broke my legs?" Ian spoke.

" That's right. Thankfully, Scott got you to my lab quickly, I fear what other damage may have been done if you were alone." Hank spoke. " How are you feeling?" He asked.

" Well... I feel fine." Ian told the man.

Hank shook his head and looked at Ian like he had said something crazy.

" I'm sorry. What?" Hank asked.

" Yeah, I feel just fine. I can move just fine." Ian spoke. " See." He demonstrated by lifting both of his legs up into the air with ease which, after the long surgery he had, should have been impossible.

Hank ripped the sheets back from Ian's legs and saw that there was no damage. His legs looked like they hadn't been badly broken at all. No bruises at all. The only thing that was there was a scar from where he had been cut open by Hank, but even that was completely healed.

" Remarkable." Hank muttered. He was completely astounded by how quickly Ian's body had healed that he almost couldn't believe it. Had it not been for the fact Hank knew a man who could heal from having his skin blow completely off, he might have not believed it at all. Hank quickly leapt across his lab and started drawing vials and needles and gathering other various pieces of equipment.

" Uh, Mr. McCoy? is everything okay?" Ian asked. he was a bit concerned by the doctor's sudden actions, that he believed something may have been wrong.

" Everything? I don't know dear boy. I just need to test something!" Hank exclaimed. He ran up to Ian with a needle and a couple of vials in his hands and started extracting blood, much to Ian's dismay. " Okay, now lay down and hold still, I need to take some X-Rays. I'm also gonna perform a Cat-Scan." Hank told the boy.

" Uh, okay?" Ian replied. He did as Hank asked and laid down for him.

Hank then immediately began taking pictures of Ian's body from all angles.

After about three hours of running multiple tests and taking pictures, Hank was finally finished with his frantic experiments.

" SCOTT! I need you and Emma to come down to my lab. Immediately!" Hank shouted over the phone.

" Hank, calm down. What's going on?" Scott asked over the phone.

While Hank was speaking with Scott, Ian was just sleeping on the bed, taking all those pictures and being prodded by so many needles, really tuckered him out.

" Listen, I can't explain it over the phone. I just need you to get down here." Hank finally told the man. He then hung up the phone and looked back over the results of all his tests in disbelief. " I don't believe it. I can't believe it." Hank exclaimed.

He sat and waited for Emma and Scott in his lab, all the while staring at his results in disbelief.

After a few minutes, a very tired Scott, and a very much annoyed Emma both walked into Hank's lab.

" Alright Hank, we're here. What was so important that you felt the need to wake us both up?" Scott asked.

" Take a look at these and tell me what you see." Hank told the man; he shifted two sets of X-Rays in front scott one he had taken a few hours ago and one that was taken a year ago.

Although Scott was no doctor, even he could see the difference in the bone structures in front of him. One side was weak, small, and almost seemed brittle, while the other looked strong, no different from a healthy bone. But he was confused about what he was looking at.

" I'm sorry hank, but what does this mean? Why show me these?" Scott asked.

" Scott, Emma, look carefully at those pictures. The ones on the left are of Ian's x-rays that were taken about a year ago." Hank told the man.

" Okay?" Emma asked. She was very tired and really didn't feel like playing the guessing game with Hank.

" And the other ones are what I took just a few hours ago." Hank told the woman.

" But they look...." Scott started.

" No different from a regular mans." Hank spoke up. Finishing Scotts sentence.

" Wait. Wait. Wait. So, what does all this mean?" Scott asked.

" Well, I wasn't entirely sure I was looking at things right. So, I also took some blood samples just in case. And I can't believe it, Scott. But there's no traces of his disease anywhere in his body." Hank told the man.

" But Osteogenesis imperfecta doesn't go away. It's a lifelong disease. How did this happen? Did you have Josh heal him?" Emma asked.

" No. No one's entered this room since you left Emma. He just woke up and said he felt fine." Hank explained to the woman. " He even lifted his legs up like it was no big deal." Hank stated.

" This is remarkable!" Emma exclaimed. " Hank, how did this happen?" She asked.

" I have a few theories. But the more popular one involves his mutation. Cerebro identified him as an Adapter, but we thought he was like Darwin. But no matter what we tried, nothing ever happened. Well, I think we were looking at things the wrong way. See Darwin, adapts to the situation, he's always changing. But Ian is a bit different. His body changes to survive whatever is afflicting him." Hank explained.

" Wait, if that's the case, why has it taken so long for this to happen?" Scott asked.

" Because, his Osteogenesis hasn't flared up since he's been here. This is the first time." Hank explained. " So, when it did finally flare up and he fell, his body saw it as a virus and his mutation changed his body into something that could defeat it. Or more like it adapted to it." Hank explained.

" I see. This is something. It looks like Julian, in his own bad way, managed to help Ian out in the long run. So, Hank do you know how this mutation works? What else can you tell us?" Scott asked.

" Not much, as this is all still new to me. But when he wakes up, I'd like to try and see if we can get him up and walking." Hank told the two.

" Absolutely. I'm sure he's more than ready to get rid of those canes. Thank you for telling us this hank. This is... Quite the miracle. But we still need to monitor him. Make sure there's no chance of this disease coming back. I want you to increase his checkups to twice a week." Scott told the man.

" Of course, Scott." Hank replied.

" Very good, if you need anything else let us know tomorrow darling." Emma spoke up. Hank nodded and the two headmasters' of Xaviers departed from the labs, leaving behind a still very astonished Hank to deal with Ian alone.
