They don't know when it started but it was just green...
No...
seriously, the guards of their base suddenly started exploding into some kind of green poisonous fog that ate away at armor and flesh!
No one was safe from it a mere whiff of it can greatly weaken a 4th tier aura user!
Within 4 breathes of it, they die and explode like the ones before them!
Thanks to how little was known about it, at first when this fog appeared, many of the guards thought it was some kind of smokescreen, thus they braced themselves before a few of them charged into the fog...
their ending was pretty obvious from the first sentence of this chapter.
Their deaths led to the wider spread of the fumes that threatened the lives of this army, then things took a more drastic turn as those that were clumped together to cover each other's backs those within the ranks suddenly exploded as well!
Creating more hysteria and confusion within the ranks, as they began thinking that the corrosive 'poison' was an airborne type and now possibly everyone managed to get infected!
so it was only a matter of time when others begin to suddenly explode, at least from what they assumed, this situation destroyed what unity that they had ingrained into them from decades of training!
thus the confusion as to what can they do.
the leaders stubbornly issued orders of staying together yet they kept their distance!
the general on the other hand made sure to stay close to his troops regardless of the ongoing poison that threatened the lives of everyone here!
His training and discipline made it instinctive to do so, as he had some suspicions that whoever that was attacking wanted them to spread out to become easier to pick at.
They wanted to create chaos in their ranks!
He wanted to stop this from continuing but unfortunately, his reaction and commands were too late to change the fear and dread each soldier had of an off chance someone close to them would suddenly explode.
So the general was forced to make a harsh decision that would work faster than any other doable options...
Cutting down those that disobeyed his orders!
His target was a soldier that was full of fear and wailed out words about all of them were going to die if they stayed there and didn't escape now, the man's words were ironically true as the area they were in IS a battlefield now.
But his provoking words made more fear spread among the ranks since they always had it easy when it came to overpowering their enemies, this happened so much that they had forgotten just how easy it was for them to die!
And the general's swift sword worked well in quelling their thoughts of escape as his orders boomed out for them all to hear despite the pain in his heart for being forced to make an example out of one of his soldiers!
"FALL IN! TIGHTEN UP THOSE RANKS! I WANT EVERY SHIELD BEARER TO MAINTAIN OUR DEFENSES!"
there was a moment of silence as many of them were still processing the sight of their general killing one of their own.
But his voice again boomed out and this time even louder, which succeeded in breaking them from their stupor as they quickly replied almost all at the same time.
"DO YOU GET ME!? SOLDIERS OF THE UNITED KINGDOM!!!??"
The general knew of the repercussions should this continue but his hand was forced, even more soldiers would've died should he try the more time-consuming methods.
For the soldiers, it was like back at the time in Bootcamp as used the trained response that was hammered into their minds.
"WE GET YOU SIR!!"
For any soldier, the phrase 'soldiers of the united kingdom' was a code that their instructors always used to make them repeat, make them understand, make them... become, this not only worked to refresh their minds but it also worked well to make them strictly follow the belief, 'only by being united can they stand together!' this was the motto of the kingdom that they served.
as not only did the armies flourish from this but also the people making the united kingdom one of the strongest out of all kingdoms on this continent.
But the damage was done, the virus group had already retreated, their task was simple 'eliminate as many soldiers as possible' create chaos within their ranks until their superior kills some of the soldiers to regain control, then escape.
yes, they may have gained back their unity, but how long will it last?
Not everyone thinks the same way, and the sight of their general killing a friend will forever be etched into their minds, and on top of that, this was just the beginning...
how long will the soldiers last with this occurred more than a few times?
And a general being forced to kill his own soldiers not only destroys their long time belief but it leaves a stain that every soldier will remember until a single yet poisonous thought comes to mind.
"what if the general cuts me down next as an example?"
would they still be able to maintain their unity even after this?
for every brother in arms that gets cut down would only further prove such thoughts.
Once everything turned calm with the soldiers within this camp of dissipating poison, it wasn't until when the first soldier went to rest for the day...
Did someone suddenly explode!
it was like a repeat of before just that this time it was more draining mentally than physically, the soldiers weren't allowed to escape, they weren't allowed to rest, the Virus squad did their jobs to keep them on edge, with the same scenario happening according to the three hidden snipers' mood.
this continued for 7 days despite them receiving a good number of reinforcements from soldiers and adventurers, anyone that tried to look for the culprits that were ending their lives left and right, would turn into green mist, even scarier, one of the scouts happened to be a 6th tier aura user.
so imagine the fright this brought upon those weaker than that?
The general was no longer respected, many sought to escape in the middle of the night, none of the survivors wanted to stay there any longer, and a lot of them looked like they aged a few decades from the threat that played with their lives, the deaths were at random and none of them had figured out the methods used to spread the deadly poison!
The virus group thoroughly enjoyed becoming elites as they used the victims of their poisons as guinea pigs for the different kinds of effects they now had.
Slow acting, quick acting, kinds that could make the victim hurl his corroded insides, to mere skin contact to another to spread this rampant virus.
But since these soldiers were incredibly stubborn, Mikhail finally decided to stop playing games as his new toy was finally finished.
He was going to send his weaker troops in to get a chance to be promoted while testing out his floating disk~
