章 5: Ch 5 Met the Traitor

It had been almost three months since he woke up for the first time as Hiraeth in mid-autumn. At first it all felt clumsy as the life he was currently living was far from what he ever imagined.

He withdrew the words he said when he got his awakening for the first time. When he said that he knew how poor the family he currently had. In fact, after he lived his life as Hiraeth, it turned out that he had high expectations.

Yeah, the poverty he imagined was just to not have formal clothes for parties, not having servants, and not being able to eat meat every day. He thought that was the worst image of life he ever imagined, but his current life was much worse than the worst thing he could imagine. In his current life, he realized the fact that a loaf of bread was still edible when it turned cold. No, even the bread could still be eaten although it was petrified like a stone. As long as there was still a meal to eat, no matter if it was hot or cold, it was not a big deal, the most important thing was satiety.

"what do you do all day?" Irish asked his son.

"I practice to control my breathing. Last time I could run better."

"Really?" The woman looked enthusiastic while listening to the story of her son while preparing dinner.

Evan or known as Hiraeth, noticed Irish who was walking here and there to prepare the meal. It seemed that they were lucky enough because they had a glass of milk and a piece of meat on their plate. But that was not the thing he paid attention to.

Hiraeth noticed Irish, all this time, since he woke up, he was always curious, was it normal that a woman as beautiful as Irish was a commoner? He could not decline the fact that there were many beautiful women who were also commoners, but Irish was different.

From the way she walked, the way she smiled, until her appearance looked elegant even she put on shabby and rumpled clothes. She looked like a noble lady or a king's daughter.

At first Hiraeth denied all things that had crossed his mind, but after he met the people around him, he realized one thing, none of them had silver hair. Their appearance also looked completely different. Without realizing it, there was a thought in his mind. "Mother, were you an aristocrat?"

A mad question he never thought would come out of his mouth. He was shocked by himself who accidentally asked the mad question. But the more surprising thing was Irish did not deny it right away.

"So, is it true?"

"Where did you hear that?"

"I'm not sure, but an old woman said that we are a disgrace to royalty." A lie, of course that was a lie Hiraeth made up on purpose to provoke Irish to reveal the fact.

Another reason Hiraeth could imagine that they were not commoners was when he practiced his physical abilities. At first he just walked around the house, because his physique was very bad he couldn't do strenuous activities right away. But with time, Hiraeth increased his physical activity, until he managed to run much better than before.

But the more surprising thing was when Hiraeth practiced breathing and composure simultaneously, Hiraeth felt something strange. He felt something great and luminous. At first he had no idea what it was, but over time he realized that was mana. The body of Hiraeth has a large mana, it is just that it can't be used as his physique is very weak.

That was a normal thing as Hiraeth had had heart disease since he was infant and had just miraculously recovered.

Even so, Hiraeth didn't immediately assume that he was a noble, because there were lots of great witches who came from commoners. But if noticed from the reaction of Irish, it could be sure there was something to hide.

"So, is it true, Mom?"

"It's not just like what you think. I was a noble back then, no, I was the ninth Princess of the Kingdom of Amerta. As I was in love with a wanderer, I decided to leave the kingdom."

"Is the wanderer my father?"

"Yes..."

Irish kept talking about her past when she was a royal daughter, and the first moment she met the biological father of Hiraeth who was a wanderer. It was clear that there was not slightest remorse in Irish's eyes for having made that choice even though it tormented her ultimately

On the other hand, Hiraeth understood where the great mana in himself came from. Since his mother was a former royal princess, it was certain that he had a chance to obtain great mana. Not to mention, there was the possibility it came from his father who could have been a wanderer due to hunting for great power, before finally he knelt down to the power of love.

It turned out this body was not that bad as he imagined when he woke up for the first time. Even though the poverty was still bad luck. Am I supposed to be grateful for this little uncertain hope?- Hiraeth thought, before finally continuing to dinner while listening to the stories that Irish had never told before.

***

Hiraeth... Hiraeth... let's change your clothes..." That was the voice of Irish in a hurry approaching Hiraeth who was swimming in the river.

"What's going on, Mom?"

"The crown prince... The crown prince will pass through our village."

"Do you mean Disher?"

"You can't call him in such a manner. The crown prince, Disher Phosphen. Don't you want to see him? He is your idol's best friend."

Hiraeth was silent, he was going to see Disher? The one who had betrayed him in the past? Does he have to be happy or angry as he met so soon with the traitor?

Hiraeth obeyed the order of Irish to change his clothes, then followed her towards the town square for the first time. Based on Irish explanation along the way, the arena where the entourage of the crown prince passed through was the way towards Kerinci hill which was just behind the city where Hiraeth lived.

Just like his previous life, they walked through the forest from south to north. It was just this time was different, they only patrol around to make sure there were no monsters left. It is a routine they do every two years.

The skinny body of Hiraeth huddled with the people who were in droves to see Disher and his famous knight troops. Although it was painful, Hiraeth was grateful as he could steal a dagger from one of the villagers.

The sound steps rang out between the horse's legs and the human's legs amidst the hustle and bustle of excited society. From a distance Hiraeth could see Disher walking while holding a horse's harness. He walked politely greeting the people with a smile.

That smile... I've been fooled by that sincere smile. I'll get my revenge on you!
