"Why can't I?" Jaylene laughed at him. "Didn't you break your engagement with Aurora Richardson? And what about your parents? They got married and had you, but still ended up divorced, right?"

"Alright, I'm going to rest now," Jaylene turned to walk towards the guest room. As she reached the doorway, she asked, "Are there any quilts or anything in there?"

"No," Joseph answered irritably. "They're only in the master bedroom. You'll have to sleep on the master bed."

"I remember the master bed... Hasn't your ex-fiancée slept on it?" Jaylene reminded Joseph.
