章 3: THREE: Marriage offer 1

Conrad Williams and Caleb Williams were there, hugging their crying sister. Carol had just received a wedding invitation from Jeremy, a fiancé who broke up with her two months ago. Conrad, who found his sister, roared at the front door of the house and panicked, even though the housekeeper tried to throw away the invitation letter before Carol found it.

Things got worse; Carol couldn't stop crying until she passed out from exhaustion. What a bastard Jeremy was; they all knew about their eldest brother's bad past, where Carol was once unwanted by their parents and placed in an orphanage when the company was at its worst.

An unwanted marriage made Odelia Williams reluctant to accept Carol between their two relationships. Furthermore, Odelia's pregnancy occurred due to Sergey's mistake of forcing his will on Odelia when he was drunk.

"What should we do with this bastard?!" asked Caleb, who couldn't wait any longer.

"I don't know; dad forbade us to do anything to this jerk!" Conrad answered angrily.

The two of them couldn't bear to give Jeremy their ultimate punch; the man dared to cheat on his brother and now sent a wedding invitation. What more if he was a jerk and a stinky asshole, staring at Carol on the bed that still had tears left.

The sound of the door opening made the two people engulfed in flames of emotion wake up and look alert, but both breathed a sigh of relief when they saw Marcus coming.

"Who told you?" Conrad asked Marcus like old friends seeing each other.

"The head of the household called me not long after your father asked me for help; it was quite serious. Fill the fridge in this house with chocolate, ice cream, and avocados. Your sister must be hungry after crying until she fainted like this," Marcus said, sitting on the side of Carol's bed.

"I'm not going to leave my sister alone with a guy like you, enough of that bastard. No more bastards!" Caleb vented his anger on Marcus, who had a relationship with Jeremy.

Marcus glanced at the two twins before sighing, "I have permission from both of your parents. Call your mom or dad if you don't believe me," just as he finished speaking. Conrad got a call from his mother; he picked up his phone and listened to Odelia talk before his eyes met Marcus. "See? I already said that he will recover if your parents have given permission and asked me for help. I assure you of that; there won't be another jerk."

"Go away, Caleb, buy what Carol needs. I'll stay here to take care of her!" said Conrad to Caleb, who was born 5 minutes later.

Marcus remained silent, watching Carol's regular breathing. At the same time, Conrad noticed that the face of the grown man at his brother's side had no expression whatsoever, which only made him even more suspicious.

"You could make a hole in my sister's face if you look at her like that!" said Conrad, warning Marcus, who suddenly chuckled, making the atmosphere strange for Conrad.

"I'm afraid she's too naive when we think about her past. You always feel sorry for your sister, right? I am the same, seeing how she used to be like a lost kitten with no place to call home. I approached her out of pity, but now I'm attached to her, and she depends on me. I just got almost the same news as her; she looks so hurt by me, who has gotten used to this." Marcus rubbed the back of her hand slowly; it was warm.

Marcus managed to touch his sensitive spot, and the young man sighed, realizing that he had been too vigilant and had intended to vent his emotions on Marcus, who was also a victim. Both of them were victims of their parents who only cared about each other's feelings, causing wounds to their children. Additionally, they were both cheated on by their fiancés, one of whom was about to marry Marcus's brother. Conrad had evil intentions and wanted to blame Marcus because of his brother's actions, but he suddenly became embarrassed.

After that, Conrad silently let Marcus hold his sister's hand until their parents arrived. Everyone was apprehensive about Carol's condition; her family treated her like a jewel, and Jeremy, with a jerk, had injured the Williams family's diamond. Of course, that would be no excuse for him. Carol didn't even wake up, even though there was a commotion in her room due to Odelia's crying after listening to stories from Conrad and Marcus.

"Mr. Sergey, could you please speak for a moment?" asked Marcus, looking at the old man who now had wrinkles under his eyes, just like his father.

"Sure, should we go to my office room?"

"Sure, if that's allowed."

Then the two left Carol's room, leaving the twin sisters and their mother waiting for Carol. The doctor who came out, Williams, had also been contacted to examine her; this woman cries too much. It's just been a week since she started to feel better, but her condition was worsening again due to Jeremy's invitation letter to Carol.

Sergey rubbed his face and started looking back at Marcus, an offer that surprised him, but he wanted his daughter to be happy. Mistakes in the past are difficult to erase, and they couldn't be erased when they all left a bad mark on their eldest daughter's head.

"Earlier, Carol was caught meeting Jeremy, who asked for their relationship back. I can't stay silent; sorry for making Carol like this."

"No, it was a good thing to wake Carol up earlier. It's just that she still keeps her distance from all of us. In everything she did, she didn't want us, her parents, to be involved," Sergey said, smiling languidly toward Marcus. "Thank you. If you weren't there, I wouldn't know what happened to my daughter. Even after the past events, I still can't learn from my mistakes!"

"This offer is available because I want Carol," Marcus said, repeating his intention.

But Sergey chuckled a little, knowing the problem, and didn't answer immediately. He saw Marcus's flat face, which was not at all bothered by his judgment. "Don't lie. You need a bride to secure your father's estate. Don't use my daughter as a tool!"

"Although that also includes the reason, you should hear this first."

....

Marcus was surprised when he saw Conrad on the other side of the door; it felt like deja vu.

Conrad looked at him questioningly. "What did you talk to my dad about?"

"Oh, that's nothing a child needs to know about," Marcus replied.

Conrad's face turned angry. "Damn it! I heard you mention my sister's name several times, tell me!"

Marcus chuckled. Conrad had always been a caring and overprotective brother to his younger sister. But this time, there was no way he could tell him. The news might make him go berserk.

"Marcus!"

"I have to go back. We'll meet again, brother-in-law," Marcus said, leaving the William family's house with a happy smile.

Leaving Conrad in a confused and curious state. Anything about his sister was his business.

...

Three days later, Carol didn't say much, but at least she was eating and getting back into her routine. She was not alone; Marcus always accompanied her after work or during his free hours in his busy schedule.

"Do you want to look for books again?" Marcus asked Carol, who was looking through her cellphone.

"No, I suddenly thought of getting a cat. I was hoping you could take me to a kitten care; I want to find a kitten. I don't think I can survive with my frenetic head; I need a friend," Carol said, her words making Marcus hold his chest.

"Ah! My heart hurts, so I'm not considered a friend by Carol," he said dramatically.

That woke Carol up, and she laughed and smacked the sturdy man on the shoulder by her side. "Jeez! It's not like that; you're still my best friend. But I need a bed partner every time I want to close my eyes. My head is so noisy; I don't want to think about yesterday's matter."

"I can also accompany you home. Want to marry me?" Marcus offered while turning the steering wheel of his car shrewdly.

But Carol laughed harder, thinking it was a joke. "Oh, no way!! You have to be kidding, right?"

"I'm serious. Don't you want revenge? Let's make this marriage real; consider it a contract marriage. I need a wife to inherit my father's inheritance, and you need a bed partner to take your pain out on Jeremy. I am also hurt here as a result of the betrayal that Paula committed. We need each other; why don't we do a wedding to get revenge on those two people?" Marcus then took his car into the parking lot, stopping at the kitten care cat shelter. He faced Carol, who was still silently digesting what Marcus had to offer. "What do you think?"

But there was something strange; Carol did not realize it. Marcus was not someone who quickly offers only by taking advantage of each other if it's not so profitable.
