Claire knew she was dead the moment she heard the alarm go off and subsequently stop. That was only possible if someone knew the code; if the system had been destroyed, a notification would have been sent to the security company and her phone.

Alex was here. After whatever they had done to him, they decided to make things go full circle and have him be the one to kill her. It was the cruelest possible thing they could have done.
