章 7: The Killing Of The Elephant Kuvalayapida [End]
But since Krishna was not there, the tusk was pushed into the ground. Although the elephant was already angry, the keeper kept goading it to attack Krishna.
It rushed madly at Krishna but Krishna caught hold of its trunk and pulled the elephant down. When the elephant and keeper fell, Krishna jumped upon the elephant and broke off one of its tusks.
He used this to kill the elephant and its keeper. Then Balarama broke off the other tusk. Both Krishna and Balarama then placed the tusks on their shoulders and entered the wrestling arena.
The famous wrestler Chanura met Krishna and said, "We have heard about Your heroic deeds and that is why the king has called You to take part in this wrestling match. My wrestling partner Mushtika and I are eager to wrestle with both of You."
Krishna understood that Chanura's friendly words hid his true feelings and that he was actually looking forward to killing Krishna and Balarama during the match.
So he replied, "We are boys who have played with Our friends in the forests and wrestled with boys Our age and of Our strength. But to wrestle with men of your size will not be good for the audience to watch."
Chanura then praised Krishna, "I know that You are both very powerful as You have just killed the strong elephant Kuvalayapida in a wonderful way. I am sure that You have the strength to fight me. I will wrestle with You and Mushtika will wrestle with Your brother Balarama."
