5.55% Up in Smoke (Soulmate au) / Chapter 3: The Story of a Carton of Milk.

章 3: The Story of a Carton of Milk.

Maybe it was because he reminded her too much of her father.

Because his need for control could easily be the same shade of purple. Lily pads on her skin that stung even as they faded. She saw that in the way his fingers curled around her wrist. She needed no more of it.

Apart of her wished she hadn't been so cruel at least. The welts on his fingers had scarred and she wanted to apologize for that. That wasn't her, she wasn't him. And she wished she could make that clear.

But every time she mustered up the courage something would stop her.

Bakugou Katsuki. The boy chained to his winning pedestal.

How could she be so unfortunate?

She remembered how much his muzzle matched her father's. The T.V. screen a reminder of the glass that separated them both during their yearly visits. She didn't like the feeling she got in her tummy whenever she'd hear him yell, it was all too familiar. He was gone and she was better.

He wasn't gonna make her relive him.

"Helloo? Earth to (Y/N)? Anybody home?" Hagakure's voice pulled her out of a daze.

Her cheeks burned a bit as her eyes met her acquaintance's uniform. The entirety of the table eyeing her as if she had grown a second head."Oh, I'm sorry. I must have zoned out. Were you saying something?"

"Uh yeah, church mouse." Ashido giggled as she poked at the girl's cheek. "We wanted to know what your deal was?"

She lifted an eyebrow. "My deal?"

"Ya' know? Like where'd you come from exactly? No one's ever really seen you around here so unless you want us to believe you just popped out of thin air-"

"Ashido. There are much nicer ways to go about saying things." Yaoyorozu chastised her. "What she means is that we'd all like to know how a girl as pleasant as you found yourself at Yūei?" She smiled gently. "Where did you come from? What pushed you to become a hero? If you don't mind us asking of course."

"Oh um.." (Y/N) hesitated, the collar of her uniform suddenly tighter than she had left it.

There was a correct answer to this somewhere in her head, she knew that. It felt like hours she spent practicing it in the mirror. Repeating it to herself. Before bed but always after the lights went out: I'm a hero because... I'm here because.... Fuck! What was it?!

"I'm-"

Splash!

The sudden cold that spilled down her shoulders was enough to make her squeal involuntarily.

"Oh! Oh god! I'm so sorry!" Midoriya, I think it was, exclaimed from behind her.

Before she could acknowledge him (Or the crimson pair of daggers drilling holes into the poor boy's skull) She was nearly lifted from her spot at the table. Midoriya's voice following behind his head as he dragged her out of the lunchroom. "I-I'll help you get cleaned up. Come on!"

---

"M-Midoriya what are you-"

"Shh." He quieted her as he tucked the two between a row of lockers.

Silently he unfastened the jacket of his uniform, slipping his white button up over his head and handing it to her.

"You were clamming up so I panicked." He whispered. "Sorry about that. That had to be pretty unpleasant."

"I-" She stuttered as she lifted the shirt from his hand. "You-"

"I know." He smiled, though somewhat sorrowfully.

She could feel the smoke on her shoulders rising to her ears. He made a mental note to write that down later. "Did All Might tell you?" She asked, faintly remembering the former hero talking with the boy outside of class the other day.

"No. He didn't have to." He rubbed the back of his neck. "I'm a bit of a hero buff and I-" He chocked on his spit a bit when she started unbuttoning her shirt.

"I um-" He turned the other way, his face scolding. "Could faintly remember a fight your dad had with pro hero Endeavor back in the day. The internet didn't really say that he had a daughter so~"

"You've been watching me?" She tapped his shoulder.

"Uh, yeah. Sorry." He turned to her. (Had she always been that pretty?) "You two have pretty similar quirks. Give or take..." He cleared his throat. "Yeah.. sorry."

"You don't have to keep apologizing." She smiled softly. (Boy, is it hot in here or what?) "Thanks for saving me back there. That was very kind of you."

"Of course." He nodded. "Hey, if- If anyone asks, you can tell them you're from Aldera. It's the um~" He swallowed. "It's the junior high Kacchan and I came from. He probably doesn't remember anyone from there so I could pretty easily vouch for you."

She nodded and then grimaced. "Kacchan? Who's-" She paused. "Bakugou? Wait, are you two friends?"

His expression soured a bit, enough to make her feel bad for asking. "Not anymore. No."

"Oh. I-I apologize for-"

"No, don't worry about it. Just~ Hey, why don't you sit with me and my friends next time for lunch." He gasped as the offer seemingly fell out of his mouth. "I-I mean you don't have to if you don't want to! I'm not gonna force you to or anything! I just- if you want- Which you might not but-"

She giggled.

And he thought. Wow.

"I'd love to Midoriya."

"Deku."

"Deku? Isn't that a little hurtful?"

"Depends on how you say it. Kare wa nandemo dekiru."

"Ah," She nodded. "He is capable of anything. I like it."

Brrrring! Brrring!

He sighed as he looked up, she couldn't help but stare at the pleasant freckles on his Adam's apple. "That's the bell."

"See you in class?"

He nodded as he met her eyes again, silently deciding that he wanted to see them more often. "See you in class."

Watching her for a moment as she walked away, he took a moment to lean back and smile.

Maybe It's a little too early to be thinking like this. He thought to himself. But this would be one hell of a story in the future when we tell it. How we got together: The story of a carton of milk.

He sighed as he ran his fingers through his hair. Sauntering jovially as he-

Slam!

His back hit the lockers with enough force to shuffle the row. The grey doors stuttering around him as his eyes met the irate expression of the man whose fists held him a near inch off the ground.

The look in his eyes. He had never seen it. Not like this.

He let out a terrified breath. "K-Kacchan!"
