章 1: 1First Impressions

Despite being someone who generally refrained from outwardly panicking, the bewildering experience of awakening post-death certainly had me rattled, albeit internally. I was consumed with confusion, understandably so given I had just succumbed to death.

Strangely, there was a sense of gratitude, if such a thing is possible in such circumstances, for not having experienced any pain upon my demise. I can conclusively say, I did not suffer.

Upon my initial conscious moments, I was instantly flooded with unfamiliar memories, a sensation far more painful than the actual act of dying. It was as if I was caught in an unending wave of other's memories and profound pain. After what felt like an eternity, I regained my consciousness, allowing me to process these newfound memories.

As I lay comfortably on a bed, I sifted through centuries of these memories. The reality of my predicament was startling – I had been inexplicably transported post-death into the body of Elijah Mikaelson.

The current timeline indicated that 'I', or rather, Elijah, had just engaged in combat with his father Mikael, creating a diversion for his younger half-brother Niklaus and youngest sister Rebekah to escape.

Mikael, as most know, was the most formidable Mikaelson, that is until Klaus reawakens his dormant werewolf powers. The battle between Mikael and myself was far from conventional. Given the impossibility of defeating Mikael singlehandedly, along with the threat of the White Oak stake he possessed, I primarily focused on distracting and infuriating him, akin to a game of chess.

Mikael's extensive experience as a general and participation in numerous wars meant any advantage I gained would be short-lived. After keeping Mikael occupied for approximately a day, I decided to make my exit, assuming Klaus and Rebekah would have utilised this time wisely.

Exhausted and in need of sustenance, I feasted on a group of less-than-innocent humans, aligning with Elijah's lack of empathy for those he deemed malevolent.

Whilst resting, I inexplicably emerged, absorbing all of Elijah's memories. Coupled with my prior knowledge from watching 'The Originals' and 'TVD' in my previous life, I was able to anticipate future dangers.

I knew that Klaus and Rebekah would be safely tucked away in Chicago until Mikael located them, providing me with ample time to make necessary arrangements for the future, including a plan to permanently deal with Mikael.

The Mikaelson family owned numerous properties worldwide, ensuring I had plentiful options for accommodation. In my previous life, I had minimal knowledge about USA's geography, so it was peculiar to be learning and yet simultaneously knowing such information.

New Orleans was particularly appealing, given my family's absence had left it ripe for the taking.

Armed with the dual memories of my past life and Elijah's experiences, I was now aware of how Mikael had discovered our whereabouts - Marcel and Rebekah had betrayed us.

This knowledge hardened my heart against Marcel. While I might find it in me to show mercy towards him after regaining control and eliminating Mikael, he would have to work hard to earn back my trust.

I set off towards New Orleans, discreetly scanning for any signs of Mikael. Detecting none, I decided it was time to reclaim my family's empire. However, I wisely chose to remain in the shadows, avoiding becoming the public face of New Orleans due to the inherent risk.

The return of an Original would undoubtedly attract attention, potentially leading Mikael straight to me before I was fully prepared to confront him. Therefore, I decided to lay low.

I found Marcel, who to his credit, appeared genuinely distraught. However, he had brought this upon himself.

Not wishing to cause unnecessary fatalities, I waited until he was alone before swiftly and quietly approaching him from behind. Before he could react, I snapped his neck.

I transported his unconscious body to the desolate Mikaelson compound, destroyed by Mikael, and waited for him to regain consciousness.

As Marcel's eyes fluttered open, his confusion and surprise were palpable.

"Elijah..." Marcel uttered, his voice laced with disbelief.

"You snapped my neck?" He asked, still disoriented.

Desiring to keep my knowledge of his betrayal hidden, I played along.

"Yes, I apologize for the abruptness," I replied calmly, "I needed to ensure I wasn't seen."

"Where are the rest of the Mikaelsons?" Marcel queried.

"Unfortunately, it's just me for now, but I am aware of my siblings' whereabouts," I responded, reading the curiosity in Marcel's gaze.

"Why are you still here, then?" Marcel asked, pulling himself to his feet.

"I remain, Marcellus, because I refuse to watch everything my family and I built fall into ruin," I declared.

"It's good to see you alive, nevertheless," Marcel confessed.

Upon this reunion with Marcel, I shared my plans for New Orleans. I could see his ambition dampen upon my return, but I knew I would have to keep a close eye on him in the future.

I vowed to assist Marcel in reclaiming control over our city, providing support from behind the scenes which would expedite his rise to power.

Once Mikael was finally out of the picture, I could step out of the shadows and reestablish my public presence. Until then, I would be forced to operate from the shadows.
