章 10: Personal Assistant to the CEO
My heart starts to palpitate. Now I remember where I have read that name, one simply do not start working for a company without doing some basic research. Xavier Lee is the current CEO of Lee Group of Investment. A powerful man who can manipulate the world's economy as the group influences stretches wide from property development to entertainment industry. They have a hand is almost everything you can name. Rumour has it he can chew his enemy up without any bones left.
"Hans, am I in the wrong office? This is the CEO office."I asked.
Hans still with his deadpan face said,"You are the personal assistant of the CEO, of course you are going to work in his office. It is important that you get first hand instruction and execute them without delay. You can press 1 on your intercom phone for me as I will coordinate with the other secretaries to ensure everything needed is done. We value high efficiency hence your post is very important."
Hans pointed out a work station placed closer to the door which I did not notice earlier. Then he proceeded to explained my role as the personal assistant to the CEO, bearing responsibility on his meeting, appointment and travel schedule, personal and impersonal appointments down to his meals. There are three stacks of files on the table that I am suppose to go through to familiarise myself with this month schedule and organise the next. I can feel myself sweating, not only I have to face a demon everyday but there is no probation period too. I can just imagine how I am being killed and gutted for simple mistake like a messed up appointment time for the demon CEO.
As if reading my mind, Hans clarified,"Ms. Yuki, you do not need to stress yourself out too much. We know that you are a fresh graduate and will prone to make mistakes in the beginning but we rather groom someone from the start compare to taking an assistant who is already accustomed to somebody else. Mr. Lee will not be coming in until after lunch. Before that I will stay to help you familiarise with his schedule. "
Hans was the epitome of perfection and efficiency. He doesn't show any special interest or voiced particular remarks of the enigmatic CEO life. It's really straight forward and easy without string attached when he help me to organise and look at this month schedule.
Lunch time soon approached. We stop and he inform me that there is a private staff canteen on the 15th floor or renowned cafe bistro on the ground floor if I want a quick lunch and back to work on the files since it is my first day and unfamiliar with what the area has to offer yet. So considerate yet so cold, I wonder how his other half can stand a person as such. I knock myself on my head and scolded myself for thinking badly of Hans when he has already help me so much without taking advantage of a newbie like me.
I took my small backpack and headed out for lunch, admiring my new employee tag along the way. Abruptly a scene came to my mind where I apologised and sprouting nonsense about this guy touching my butt. Maybe it would be the best if I eat at the staff canteen for now since that guy was really well dressed and does not look like an employee here. He might still be a regular at the cafe though since there are so many office building in the financial district so it is better to avoid this place for now.
I was overjoyed when I found out that I can actually eat for free at the staff canteen with my employee tag. The choices are well balanced and quite a variety too. Most important above all their chocolate mousse for dessert is to die for. Chocolate is my fatal attraction, I simply cannot say no to it. Lucia has bribed me with enough chocolate to skip school once, trick some boys into a ditch and many other naughty endeavours that got us into big problems with our parents. It is also how our parents got close together even we are not in the similar wealth bracket to make sure we are always monitored. Thinking of Lucia make me homesick and sentimental.
"That's the new personal assistant," I heard as I walk over to placed my used tray of eating utensils. That's when I thought about my current position as the assistant to demon lord which make me nervous all over again. Determination is my strength, I took a deep breath and take the elevator up again.
