"Do not think I missed the target, Mark." A silence followed, "I never missed."

Mark's body shook as he heard the words that came after the gunshot. His heartbeat quickened and everywhere suddenly became hot like he was going to suffocate.

The pain he was feeling on his cheek was even less painful compared to what he was feeling now.

Slowly, he raised his head, his eyes first met the stark of documents on the desk in front of him and he froze.

Little wonder.
