The Covenant forces pressed forward relentlessly, and we held our ground as best we could. Bishop barked orders over the comms, his voice crackling through the chaos of explosions and plasma fire. I fired off another burst with my shotgun, taking down an Elite before ducking back into cover.
Objective Update: Hold the Line
"Pilot, heads up," Bishop growled as he reloaded his rifle. "Reinforcements are en route. We've got two ODST teams inbound, should help us push these bastards back."
I nodded, though my focus was still on the enemies closing in. Another drop pod hit the ground with a deafening boom, sending up a cloud of dust. The pod door hissed open, and out stepped two more ODSTs, but these soldiers were different.
One of them, a woman with silver eyes and dark red hair, raised her BR55 battle rifle with steady hands, moving like she'd been born into combat. Another, a shorter woman with black hair and a red streak, followed behind, her movements sharp and precise, holding a M7 submachine gun. I blinked, recognition flickering somewhere in the back of my mind.
Objective Update: Teams JNPR and RWBY have joined the fight. Collaborate with allied ODST forces.
Bishop's voice cut through my thoughts. "Looks like we've got more than just the usual grunts backing us up. Meet Teams RWBY and JNPR—some of the best ODST squads Earth's got left."
"Ruby Rose," the redhead introduced herself quickly, her voice determined, yet light, as she glanced at me with a confident smirk. "We're here to help kick some Covenant butt."
Beside her, her teammates were already moving into formation. Yang, with her golden hair pulled back, carried a M90 shotgun, cracking her knuckles like she was itching for a fight. Weiss, who had an icy composure that fit the battle-hardened look in her eyes, gripped a M392 DMR. And Blake, silent but focused, moved with a M7 SMG like she was born to wield it, her dark hair blending with the shadows as she took point.
Behind them, another group of ODSTs landed with another pod—a team that Bishop called JNPR. They moved with the same professionalism, their armor painted with personal touches. Jaune Arc, their leader, had a MA5B assault rifle and gave me a quick nod before taking position. His teammates followed in his wake—Pyrrha, a tall, red-haired warrior with the calm precision of a seasoned vet, carried her own BR55 battle rifle. Ren and Nora completed the team, with Ren wielding a M7S suppressed SMG and Nora lugging an M41 SPNKr rocket launcher like it was a toy.
"Good to have more boots on the ground," I said, giving a nod to Ruby as I pressed my back against cover. "We've got a lot coming at us."
"Then we'll just have to push back harder," Yang replied, already aiming at an incoming wave of Grunts with her shotgun.
"Bishop," Ruby called out, "What's the sitrep?"
Bishop was already checking the tactical map on his HUD. "We hold this position and wait for evac, or we're all dead. Covenant numbers are growing. We don't have much time."
New Mission Objective: Secure Evacuation
The Covenant forces surged forward again, and this time, we weren't just holding. We were pushing back.
Ruby and her team moved like a well-oiled machine, ODST gear and training coming together as they mowed down enemy forces with military precision. There were no special abilities here, no fancy Semblances or powers—just pure combat experience and the UNSC's finest weapons.
Weiss coordinated with Pyrrha, picking off Jackals and Elites with lethal precision from their DMRs. Yang charged into the fray, her shotgun blasting through Brutes and Grunts with brutal efficiency. And Blake? She was a ghost, darting from cover to cover, laying down fire with her SMG, always a step ahead of the enemy.
Jaune held the line with the rest of his team, his assault rifle barking as he kept the Covenant at bay. Pyrrha's marksmanship was unmatched, her rifle dropping targets left and right. Ren moved like a shadow, his suppressed SMG taking out targets with quiet precision, while Nora's rocket launcher unleashed devastating barrages against advancing vehicles and clusters of enemies.
"Pilot," Jaune called out as he took down an Elite, "What's our next move after evac?"
I didn't have a solid answer, but one thing was certain. These ODSTs weren't just cannon fodder—they were elite. If we had any hope of winning this war, I had no doubt they'd play a key role in it.
I let out a breath I didn't realize I'd been holding as the incoming waves of Covenant started thinning out. Bishop's voice crackled over the comms again. "Evac in T-minus three minutes. We hold until then."
Objective Update: Evacuation Approaching
Ruby shot me a quick glance as she fired another round into a charging Brute. "What about you, Hawk? What's your story? Not often we see a guy like you in ODST armor."
"I'm not ODST," I replied, reloading my shotgun. "Pilot from a different galaxy. Got sucked into this fight by some interdimensional glitch, and now I'm here."
She raised an eyebrow but didn't question it. "Well, we're glad to have you. Just try to keep up with us, alright?"
I grinned beneath my helmet. "You might be the ones who need to keep up with me."
We fought side by side, holding the line until the evac arrived. Ruby and her team worked like clockwork, each member moving with precision and lethal efficiency. No supernatural powers were needed—they were soldiers, and damn good ones at that.
When the evac finally touched down, we piled into the dropship, the roar of its engines drowning out the last remnants of the battlefield. As we lifted off, leaving the Covenant forces behind for now, I glanced at Ruby, Jaune, and their teams. There was something about them—something unshakable.
"Looks like we survived," Ruby said, leaning back against the wall of the dropship, her helmet off now, revealing a wide grin.
"Yeah," I replied, my grip still tight on my shotgun. "But the war's just getting started."
