Not wasting any more time to say anything else to Rex, Kai took off to the hospital with Victoria.
"Zoey!" he cried, and she was sure to rush to him in the hallway.
"I have a room," Zoey calmed him, leading him to her room.
After he laid her down on the hospital bed, Zoey examined every inch of Victoria by waving her hands up and down her fragile body.
"She'll need a blood transfusion," Zoey determined as she continued to hover her hands all over her frail colorless body.
"First, I need to wake my unborn offspring," Kai informed her.
"You need to do that quickly," Zoey affirmed. "Otherwise, they'll kill her."
To give him some space, she strolled over to the counter to start her preparations. On the medical tray, she neatly set up the medical tools and whatever else she needed to save Victoria from death. After all these years, she still hasn't unlocked the full abilities of her gift and not all of Victoria's injuries could be healed with her gift.
Without having much of a choice but to do this the semi-harsh way, Kai bit his wrist, and he then forced Victoria to drink his blood to wake their unborn vamp babies.
"I'm sorry, baby," Kai crooned as she weakly groaned and fought him away from her mouth, but her attempt to shake her head free and raise her hands to his wrist was all but futile before she ended up passing out anyway.
The second his unborn offspring woke up, they cried in her womb because they felt their mother's pain, and they were too little to understand what was going on.
"She's dying," Kai muttered as he cupped her cheekbone into his palm while his other hand held hers.
In every passing second, her heart was barely beating. Heartbreak pressed against his chest, and his body felt extremely overheated, even though the blood in his veins had suddenly run cold.
Heartbroken too, Zoey unveiled, "I didn't want to say it, but she has a blood clot in her brain."
"It's from her time gap," Kai uttered with such heartsickness, and Zoey nodded to confirm it.
"She must've been going into it more than I knew," he frowned. "She might not make it."
To keep himself from crying, his fangs bit into his tongue at the thought of losing her. Blood ran down his throat before the painful wound he inflicted on himself had healed. But the wound was an unavailing escape against the pang he wished to cut from his heart. He couldn't bear to live without her, and it put him in such a dolor mood that he could hardly hear his unborn offspring crying to him because he felt forlorn.
Zoey sauntered over to his side and touched his hand that grasped Victoria's hand. "I'm going to do whatever I can to ensure her survival," she vowed, wiping the tears in her eyes away.
"I know you will," Kai muttered, sheerly broken-hearted.
"Before we can start, you'll need to step out. I can't have you harming her during the process of the blood transfusion," Zoey gently told him.
"I'm going," Kai confirmed. "Do whatever it takes to save her."
For once, he wished he had control over his madness for blood. Otherwise, if he did, then he wouldn't have to leave his wife.
After kissing Victoria's frail blood-crusted lips, Kai vanished to the hospital's rooftop. From here, all he could do was hush his unborn babies at this distance as Zoey and the vampiress nurses operated on Victoria.
Within minutes, after his offspring fell asleep from his soothing frequency, Ace, Ivan, Rome, and Jack found him staring into the distance of the city from near the edge of the hospital's rooftop.
"Glenn's back. Rex's advisor thawed everyone he turned into ice after his brother had awakened him." Ace informed him.
"Rex's Coven came," Kai mumbled as he gazed beyond the city.
For now, he cut himself off from showing his doleful emotions. Otherwise, he might lose his sanity if he didn't, he figured.
Ivan clarified, "His Headmaster came. The Headmaster doesn't want war with you or with your Coven. So he made sure everyone who was turned to ice had been thawed out. Everyone else who was bitten and detained with venom are currently in their detained healing sleep at your father's mansion."
"Hmm," Kai only hummed because he had no comment to enunciate.
As the sky rumbled with thunder, he asked, "Where's Glenn?"
"He's with Alice. He said he'll come over if you need him to." Rome softly answered.
Given the fact of what occurred, he knew Kai's tranquil stance and attitude was a calm warning before the storm within him would erupt. None of them wanted this to happen like it did back at the museum.
"I don't need him. He should stay with his young mate." Kai barely mumbled from his breath as the thunder rumbled louder.
Lightning streaked blue flashes across the sky as Kai was zoned out on it. Snowflakes began to flutter against the light breeze. For the humans, it was a beautiful rare sight to see blue lightning in the sky, especially during the beginning period of the winter season. Meanwhile, all the vampires knew it was a calm warning before the vampiric storm came. Somewhere out there, a vampire was brewing a storm to inform every vampire that the Vampire Covenant was assembling an important meeting.
Coming in from the distance, Kai spotted a messenger who solely worked for the Vampire Covenant was flying in towards him. As he suspected, the messenger landed on the rooftop and peered at Kai. In his hands was a red velvet envelope that was sealed and stamped with the Vampire Covenant's insignia. Out of any night, this letter had to come tonight, Kai reckoned.
"For you," the hooded vampire affirmed, hissing like a snake when he gave Kai the envelope.
As Kai was breaking the thick stamped seal to read the letter, the vampire vanished.
A deep sigh exhaled from his breath after he read the letter. "The Brightest Blue Moon has been determined to come sometime within this coming summer. The meeting for Victoria's votes will be between winter or spring," he revealed to his friends as he folded the letter back up into the red velvet envelope.
"What should we do next?" Ace asked.
For over a minute, Kai was mute. His dark scoff stared off into the city that was brightly illuminated with glimmering lights, which stretched out within the twilight as the noisy vehicles drove along the streets from below them.
"Now we prepare for war," he replied, vastly sharp between all his friends as his eyes darkly narrowed out in the distance as the lightning increased.
The end is only the beginning.
