"Maybe we should get a room." My whispering voice quavered as I weakly pushed against his torso to stop his actions from taking my panties down the span of my legs.
His ogling eyes drooled into my gaze with one alluring grin, which turned my body and marbles into a puddle of goo.
"No one will see us," still he pressed to have his way.
A low giggle escaped my lips since I didn't know what to say. My brain malfunctioned from even caring if anyone caught us making love. Naturally, as one, we both leaned forward to the magnetic pull that attracted our lips to unite.
"Stop it, Jack!" until we withdrew from hearing Sharlene yelling at Jack.
"Why don't you back off, dude!"
To follow her voice is another male voice. Kai was quick to fix my panties before he grabbed my hand. My free hand lifted my gown while I hurried alongside him in my high heels as they clinked against the cemented pathway. Together, we proceeded to where we heard the fight from somewhere on the other side of the garden. Once we reached the center is where we found Jack, Sharlene, and another man or vampire.
"Is he a human or—"
"Human." Kai only whispered one word, and that's all it took for me to acknowledge this wasn't going to end well for the man, Jack had found Sharlene with.
"You're coming with me!" Jack growled at Sharlene as she tried to keep the man behind her. Not knowing what he was up against, the man insisted on pulling her away from behind his back, acting gallant.
"You better back off, man!" the man spat in his face.
Just when you thought Jack couldn't be any more belligerent, I was certainly proven wrong. From here, I could hear Jack's vocals rumble this deep otherworldly growl from his chest. Yet again, he sounded like a prehistoric bird. The man was taken aback by it, making his eyes widen.
"Jack, no!"
Just as Sharlene screamed, Jack twisted the man's neck all the way around to his spinal cord. His face was now toward Sharlene while the back of his head was in Jack's view. My hands flew to my mouth instinctively as Jack chucked him away like his life was meaningless. The man's weightless body crushed onto the pavement so ruthlessly that I could hear his face smacking into the sidewalk with a loud bone-breaking crunch sound. Blood splattered from where the man's face hit, which made my stomach wheezy.
"You jerk!" Sharlene blows up. "You didn't have to kill him! He was a nice guy!"
"He only wanted to get up your dress!" Jack yelled in her face.
"You're being delusional!" she gave it right back to him. "You're allowed to date whoever. That means I can too!"
"Ohh!" Jack bellowed angrily. "Because getting my face clawed off by you sure tells me otherwise!"
"Whatever, Jack, just leave me alone!" Sharlene spat as tears threatened to erupt from her eyelids. I could tell by her infuriated complexion that she was nearing her breaking point.
"Stay here in case I need to handle them," Kai whispered in my ear. I nodded to confirm I would stay aside since I understood he was making sure I would be safe. After all, it wouldn't be a clever concept to stand between an angered vampire and a vampiress. As he walked toward them, a handful of guardians arrived, with Ivan and Glenn.
"I will never leave you alone!" Jack snatched her wrist, growling more fearsomely. "You carry my offspring and my sacred mark!"
"That doesn't mean you own me!" Sharlene spat, sliding his hand off her wrist with a lot of force and struggle. Nonetheless, she broke herself free from his grasp.
"Calm down! You know this stress isn't good for Sharlene or your offspring!" Ivan cautioned him from the sideline whenever Kai came to his shoulder.
Jack growled without thinking, and he grabbed her wrist yet again. Having enough of it, Sharlene gave him an icy snarl with her lip that was enough to freeze the blood in my veins. Even from here, I saw her nails grow into thickly curled claws. With one fast strike, she slashed them straight through the flesh on Jack's left upper cheekbone. Once Jack's head whipped to the side upon impact, Sharlene stole the advantage and disappeared into a fog before fading away.
After she was gone, Jack's deadly red orbs tamed into his natural shade. Reality gave him another slap while he briefly held his bloody cheekbone. Shame struck his mind once he realized how foolish he had been. It all happened so fast that neither Kai nor anybody else had time to intervene.
As Jack's wound began to heal into newly fresh skin, he gave a long sigh. Then he broke the lingering silence.
"Forgive me for my absurd behavior," he apologizes, facing us with sincere sadness in his voice and gloominess in his eyes.
"Save it for Sharlene." Kai sighed, lecturing him. "You need to get a hold of yourself. Acting like this will only drive her farther away."
"I messed up." Jack frowned. "I wasn't thinking right."
"Obviously." Glenn gave it to him straight with one word when crossing his arms at his chest beside Ivan and the others.
Before Jack said anything else, he stared passed everyone where he connected with my sight behind them. He gave me such a sad heartbroken expression.
"I'm sorry you had to witness that." He directed solely at me.
"It's ok," I mumbled a bit too low, yet that didn't matter because I knew with his precise hearing, he heard me quite vividly. Of course, I wanted to communicate something more uplifting since his friends were harsh on him, but I was speechless about how this whole event went down.
A breezy wind blew by, and before I could collect what to say, something larger whipped past me. Then out of nowhere, I heard vivid gulping and suckling sounds come after, including fabric getting torn. I glanced over at the dead man and found myself, rather stunned frozen in one spot to witness what I was seeing with my very eyes.
A group of juveniles, including Ian, Glenn's little brother Zion, and Ryan, Ace's little brother appeared from out of nowhere. Like vultures, they had surrounded the dead man and begun to drink his blood. Their claws and fangs ripped right through his costume.
"Clean this up after they're done feeding," Kai ordered, clamping onto my hand. The guardians nodded, and then he was quick to get me out of there.
