It was an effort for Brynn not to flinch from Cedric’s touch.

As he stared into her eyes, drinking in features that belonged to the family of his past, Brynn was surprised to see pain on his face. After the stories William had told her, the fearful reverence other shifters spoke of him with, and the brief interaction she’d had with him herself, Brynn had begun to think of Cedric as a single-toned monster.

She wasn’t prepared for the ghosts dancing mournfully in his eyes.

“Where are they?” he asked quietly.

A wave of sorrow crashed through her. Of course, he would want to know what became of his Luna and their daughter. Why hadn’t this occurred to her before, that she would have to tell him?

She opened her mouth, but no words came.

“Please,” he implored. He was so different from the sneering, confident man she had first encountered. Fear and hope were layered together in the vulnerable nuances of his voice.
