Evangeline
August 15, 2026. Five days after the world as we knew it ended, five days we've been living in fear, and the day I'll finally see Alex.
Those things aren't human. Decomposing corpses that can still somehow move, they don't talk and have those horrible lifeless eyes. I'll be just putting them out of their misery. Gotta look out for number one.
I splashed my face with water and looked at the mirror. Blonde hair and green eyes, similar to Alex's and my mother's hair color. I took a few more minutes, ensuring every detail was in place. My stretchy gym leggings clung to my legs, offering flexibility, a long-sleeved t-shirt for protection, and combat boots for stomping those creatures.
Everything had already been loaded into the car, and everyone was ready. There won't be any coming back once we leave the house. Outside was the apocalypse, and the only way to survive was to fight, and we were determined to do that. I'd do whatever it took to survive.
"Make sure your guns are loaded. We'll be meeting a lot of those things once we get to the city," I said, my voice steady as I loaded my revolver.
"Aim for the head, then shoot. Easy enough," Oliver said, demonstrating with his gun.
"God, don't aim that at me," Hannah complained, glaring at Oliver.
"Now, now, guys. Let's focus on the task at hand," Liana, ever the diplomat, diffused the situation. "I double-checked, and everything is packed. Guns, food, blankets, and clothes."
"Thanks, but I think I forgot something," I said, rushing upstairs and returning with a first aid kit. "Could never be too careful."
"OK, then. Let's talk strategy. What is our game plan?" Oliver said as we walked out the door. "I think avoiding the city would be a wise choice; zombies in a horde are never a good thing."
"Agreed," we said in unison.
"OK, then. Eva, you drive for now, and we'll keep guard," he added.
"Sure," I said, shrugging my shoulders. "You and Liana should have your guns out just in case, and Hannah will keep guard. And, don't waste your ammo; it may seem like a lot, but we're not sure of how long we'll have to survive in a world like this."
