章 30: The Author Seems to be updating a bit more these days....
"Congratulations Phantom! You are eligible to take the promotion from E rank to D rank!" said Fiona with a smile.
"Is that so? What will my promotion quest be?" asked Will with an indifferent look.
"...You know you could feel a little bit more excitement from this. All the other adventurers will either shout in excitement or boast about it in a bashful or arrogant manner."
Will shrugged. "It's only D rank. There is much more that must be done before one indulges himself."
"You sound like a monk or a brainwashed noble. Instead of chasing such complicated roads and philosophies, you should buy me a drink, Phantom boy," yelled the adventurer who always drank at the tables. "Express your feelings once in a while."
"I do express my feelings though..." said Will with a confused face.
"Sure you do. Can I get another beer?" said the drunk adventurer.
"Ahaha, Phantom makes funny jokes sometimes as well doesn't he?" laughed Fiona
"It's not good to fool yourself Will- Phantom," finished Rina with a pitying gaze.
Will sighed. "Fine, I admit that I lack expressive qualities. Can I learn what my Promotion Quest will be now?"
"Of course, Phantom," said Fione as she took out a few pieces of paper. "We have a request to help a few beginner adventurers with their first dungeon clear. All you have to do is watch over them. There is a subjugation request for a wandering fugitive.
Ooh? A request to collect a certain type of herb that grows a little bit inside the elven forest. That should be easy enough."
(A/N: Imma tell you guys right now I have no idea on what the fack my geography in my world looks like. :D
All I remember is that the water kingdom is near the sea, go east, north, or south and in one of those directions should be the Freolibera Coalition where Genesis City will lie somewhat near the border.)
"Hah! The eleven border?" Scoffed the alcoholic adventurer. "Are you sending the boy to his death Fiona? The elves would turn him into a hedgehog the moment he breaks the stem of a single plant."
Fiona averted her gaze. "It should be alright as king has he doesn't go in too deep... right?"
"You just want to get rid of that troublesome request as quick as possible."
"Kek. How about the others?"
"I bet that the supervising request is from a noble who's son recently became an adventurer. Most probably, watching over them would be a waste of time."
"...."
"Subjugating a wandering criminal? Do you know how long that would take? Is the guild seriously hell bent on using Phantom boy as a slave? He should just go join the military of the Freolibera Coalition or the knights of the water kingdom instead. At least he will be paid well there."
Fiona sighed. "....Fine, I'll look for more quests."
Will watched as Fiona grabbed even more papers from under her desk and look through them while muttering to herself.
"Let's see here.... 10 mana stones aqcuirement- too easy. Troublesome dragon subjugation- too hard. Demon town annihilation- too political. Blacksmithing apprentice recruitment- why the hell is this a request? Oho? A request to take a picture of a dragon mother guarding her eggs? Phantom, do you want to-"
Fiona paused after she saw the look on the alcoholic's face and sighed. "I guess bothering a mother dragon and her eggs would be a little dangerous."
"How the fuck did someone like you become the guild receptionist of the adventurer's guild? Actually, how the fuck do we still have adventurers still alive with you handing out quests? You just tried to give a E rank a request that involves a mother dragon and her eggs."
"Rina is completely confused on how Miss Fiona's brain works."
"I mean, it's not a subjugation request so it should be fairly easy... how hard can one photo be?"
"Im going to file a complaint about how you do your job Fiona."
"Please don't."
Fiona continued to flip through the papers when another guild worker came in with a new slip of paper. Fiona glanced at the piece of paper and immediately widened her eyes. "Oh perfect! A request to help harvest water attribute mana stones. It should be a well match for Phantom who is a water spirit contractor."
Rina puffed out her chest before giving Will a proud smile. "Leave it to me! I have a hundred percent confidence in my ability to find water type mana stones. This request will be done in an instant and you will finally become a D rank!"
Will gave Rina a head pat. "Alrighty then, if you say so Rina. Can I see the quest description?"
"Of course, Phantom. Of course." Said Fiona with a happy smile.
[ Water attribute Mana Stone collection request ]
We will require a group of people who will help us acquire water attribute mana stone by hunting water type monsters in a water type dungeon. Payment will be 8 coppers per stone found by the request accepter.
Request accepted must agree to hunt with the requester party.
Will stared at the request slip for a long moment before giving Fiona a dead fish eye stare. Rina, who had also read the slip together with Will also proceeded to give Fiona a disbelieving look.
"Miss Fiona.... are you being serious?"
The alcoholic sighed before getting up from his table, took a swig of beer before coming over to Will. "Yo phantom boy, hand me that request slip. Let me see what bullshitery quest the guild came up with those time."
Will handed over the quest to the alcoholic who read it and burst out into indignation. "8 COPPERS? FOR A WATER ATTRIBUTE MANA STONE? EVEN A SLIME CORE CAN GET YOU MORE THAT THAT! THE GUILD CALLS THIS A PROPER REQUEST?"
Fiona let out an expression that seemed in between a "I don't know what your talking about" and a "please be quiet" face.
"WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MINDS WOULD MAKE SUCH A REQUEST-"
"That person would be me."
