6.12% The Rain Catcher / Chapter 3: A World of Black and White

章 3: A World of Black and White

Will observed the little spirit sitting on top of his desk quietly before carefully closing his book. He then spoke to the spirit in an emotionless voice.

"I never expected a spirit to appear before me. If the professor was here to witness this scene, I bet she would be somewhat happy."

"So you are the one who the rain follows so sadly, am I correct?"

Will recalled the name of one of his skills and quickly took out his phone, opened up his status, and clicked on his skill {One Who is Followed by Rain}.

Will gave the little spirit a stare. "I do not know anything about the rain being sad but I do have this skill called, {One Who is Followed by Rain}. Is that what you are talking about?"

"So it indeed is you," said the spirit with a calm look. "Why does the rain care about you so much?"

"What is that supposed to mean?"

The little blue spirit placed her small hands on the tip of Will's nose and frowned. "The rain is sad for you. Why do you make the rain so sad?"

Just as Will was about to answer the little fairy, the door to the classroom opened with a loud bang. The little spirit gave a small start, as if surprised, and twirled away into the air and disappeared like a mirage. Will glanced towards the classroom door to identify the culprit who had disrupted his talk with the spirit.

Thunder started to rumble outside and the raindrops started to beat down harder on the windows.

Charles let out a smirk. "Are you enjoying the lesson, Prince William?"

Will silently stared at Charles without revealing any emotion before stating, "I do have to admit that having a lesson where we are allowed to do anything we desire is somewhat liberating."

"You must think that you are lucky that we didn't have skill training today, that I lost my excuse to beat the shit out of you."

"I do not care whether you beat me or not," replied Will apathetically as he placed his book away back into his bag. "The physical pain you inflict upon me is barely anything to complain about."

"Is that so?" sneered Charles with a dangerous look. "It seems that you grew an extra pair overnight. Or maybe its because you think that I wouldn't dare to beat your ass in the academy."

Will slowly got up from his chair and stood up. "I just don't believe that you would be unintelligent enough to cause conflict within academy grounds."

"What if I told you that I don't give a shit about the academy and its rules?"

"Then you would most presumably be a fool who has his reason get clouded by a small amount of hatred and jealousy."

Charles let out a dangerous chuckle. "Do you think I'm jealous of you prince William? What would I be jealous of? Your social status? Your wealth? Your utter pathetic excuse of a skill?"

Will ignored the intentional jabs at his self esteem coming towards him from Charles and made his way out of the classroom. Will knew that once he entered the library, Charles would leave him alone. Even Charles would hesitate to bother him under the watchful eyes of the librarian.

Just as Will passed by Charles, Charles called out in a mocking manner. "What's the matter Prince William? Are you running away because your parents aren't here to protect you? Oh wait. Maybe it should be parent?"

Will's hand, which was about to grab onto the doorknob, froze as if it had been petrified.

"I've heard the rumors," sang Charles with an overly cheerful tone. "The first born prince of the kingdom of water, cursed with hair the color of a rumbling storm."

Will's hand slowly dropped from the doorknob and settled at the side of his body, slowly forming a fist. There was a small flash of light as a lightning bolt fell from the sky some distance away. A few seconds later, a distant rumble roared a them from a distance.

"It is said-" said Charles as he came closer to the frozen Will one step at a time, "-That this prince held no particular skills or talent that made him particularly stand out. At first, it was said that the prince was a fluke, a defect born in a family of sea serpents. But then, people started to suspect if the prince had any royal blood in him at all. Was he truly the first born prince of the King of sea serpents? Or was he a common water snake that was adopted into a serpent family?"

At this point, the rain outside seemed to release rocks instead raindrops as the windows started to physically tremble as the rain beat down on it like a pair of sticks on a set of drums.

"It is apparently said that the mother of the first born prince couldn't handle the rumors and the shame. It is said that the mother of the said first born prince grabbed a simple kitchen knife and sliced off her-"

"Shut up."

There was a blinding flash as the whole world was dyed in bright light. Not a moment after, an ear splitting scream filled with raw power tore through the air and lashed out at everything in its path.

Charles flinched at the unexpected roar of thunder and quickly snapped his head around to the windows while Will stared unflinchingly at Charles with an expression so void of emotion that he resembled more of a puppet than a human being. Quickly regaining his composure, Charles gave Will a smirk. "It seems our little prince is getting angry. Your face might be as emotionless as a doll, but the weather outside gives everything away. Prince William doesn't like talking about his beloved mommy-"

Will lunged forward and grabbed Charles by the collar before slamming him into the window with enough force to shatter it. The rain was louder than ever and poured into the classroom like a stuttering shower with enough velocity to sting the skin with every drop. However, instead of retaliating back with force, Charles let out a smile. "It seems that I finally pushed you to the edge, Prince William. After all this time, I finally broke that apathetic mask."

Chuckling, Charles lightly slapped Will on the cheek. It was only had been a couple of seconds since the window had broken but the two of them were already mostly soaked.

"You see, prince William. I hate the nobles. I hate the royal families. I hate the system we are trapped in and the kings we serve. I hate it all. I want to see every single royal person executed below my feat."

Charles stopped chuckling and stared at Will before spitting into his face. "However much I hate the nobles and the royal families, I do not have the power to kill them. So I will start with you."

Charles grabbed the back of William's head and drew it in closer until his mouth was next to Will's ear. "I do not care if you are considered a defect sea serpent or a common water snake. You will never be a threat to me. You see, even a common water snake can have a bite filled with venom. As for you, prince William, you will always be a small little rain catcher, unable to do anything except collect rain."

Just as Charles lifted up his hand to strike Will in the face, there was an even brighter flash of light that drowned out all other color in the world and brought down its wrath down through the broken window and onto the two boys.

The heavens then erupted with sheer volume and exploded the world of blinding white into ravenous black.
