章 36: Wretched

"…," the man seated gazed at me, his gray hair slightly disheveled, with a faint golden tint to his dark black eyes. We sat in a room stacked with documents in every corner. Even the table, which stood as a division between us, wasn't spared from the mess surrounding it. The room was bathed in the soft, gentle glow of the sun, which illuminated every nook and cranny.

The man's expression was stern as his piercing gaze bore into Ryan.

"I will ask this one last time, Mr. Ryan. If you fail to give me a straight answer, I will have no choice but to redirect this case to the principal herself. And let me give you some advice: that won't end well. So, tell me—how did you destroy your room?"

It was the same question the dorm master had asked me a billion times before sending me here—to the vice principal's office.

"I really have no idea, sir. I was just trying to cast a spell I found on the internet when I lost control, and… well, the room turned out that way," I replied, my face a mask of indifference.

That was a lie, obviously.

Here's what really happened.

...

...

"Ugh," I groaned as my eyes shot open.

Sighs. That was literally the best sleep I've had since waking up in this world.

Focus returned to my eyes, but as it did…

I realized something was wrong.

I always sleep on the lower bunk of the bed. Whenever I wake up, I'm met with the sight of the metal frame above me. That's how it's been for the past two days since I arrived here.

But now, all I could see was a scarred ceiling—literally torn to shreds. A strong enough punch from me could probably send my fist through to the top floor.

Wait.

What the hell happened here?!

I tried to roll off the bed but collapsed onto shards of ice and glass, which pierced my shoulder and sides.

Damn it.

Looking up, I noticed the lower bunk was barely hanging on by three legs—the fourth leg had been completely chopped off. The break ended just a hair's breadth from my head, narrowly avoiding what could have been my death.

Forcing myself upright, I manifested the healing potion Selena gave me yesterday. Just before heading to my room, I had run into her—literally waiting outside my door. Seeing my bloodied shoulder, she got… well, mad.

It took a lot of cringy lines to calm her down. Saying some much BS made me want to kill myself, but they worked instantly. She became a blushing mess and reverted to her docile self before handing me two high-grade healing potions—something most low-rankers would never see in their entire lifetime.

She told me to use the potions that night to heal up, claiming she had more and I shouldn't waste time hording them. But there was no way I was going to waste such an opportunity. Potions like these cost a fortune in both the outside world and even here in the academy.

"Haah," I sighed as the potion worked its magic. My wounds began to close up almost instantly.

Finally, I got a better look at the room and was left utterly speechless.

"WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED?! DID A NUKE DROP WHILE I WAS ASLEEP?!"

I could literally see outside the building—not through a window, but through a gaping hole in the wall. The entire room was charred black, as if someone had tried desperately to roast me alive.

Everything was destroyed—my uniforms, my books, my clothes. Even the room itself was barely holding together.

Sobs.

I heard soft crying and followed the sound to the corner of the room. There, curled up and trembling, was someone I hadn't expected to see.

"How the hell did you find me?!"

...

...

"So… you were casting a high-level spell?" the vice principal asked, his expression now one of visible annoyance.

Tsk.

I couldn't exactly say yes—it was impossible given how limited my mana pool was. But what choice did I have?

"Yes," I nodded. He rubbed his temples in frustration.

"Alright, minus 2,000 points," he said, jotting something down.

"What?!"

"Sorry, sir, but… what points exactly?" I asked hesitantly.

"The grading exams, of course. You're already in the negative—about 2,500 points. My advice? Try extra hard in the upcoming exams. If you can't earn enough points to climb out of the negatives, you'll be expelled. And even if you manage to break even but don't earn enough, you won't get to choose the course you want to study. Good luck," he said, his tone final.

I could only stare.

Fuck me to death.

..

Sorry for the late update, four more underway.
