章 44: An irresistible poison

Liliana Creamwell.

Her lustrous pink hair cascaded like silk, paired with eyes that shimmered with the same alluring hue. Her figure was nothing short of perfection—dangerously so. It wasn't an exaggeration to call her a walking succubus. What made her truly irresistible, though, was her innocent demeanor. That delicate blend of cute, innocent, and alluring—it was a combination meant to disarm. A lethal cocktail, really.

That was Liliana Creamwell in a nutshell.

An irresistible poison.

The novel described her perfectly. She was a villainess for a reason, a dangerous individual with an arsenal of tricks that made her impossible to ignore.

'Hey, Nelia,' I muttered under my breath.

'What?' she replied.

'Does the trinket have some sort of defense against mind attacks?' I asked. I wasn't feeling the same overwhelming urge to approach Liliana as I had that day in class when she first introduced herself.

'Yes, it does,' Nelia confirmed.

That explained a lot. No wonder the protagonist had been immune to her manipulative powers in the story. But now...

Without the trinket of destiny, doesn't that make the protagonist vulnerable?

'Which protagonist? Why do you keep talking about a novel?' she asked, sounding frustrated.

Her ignorance was starting to become a liability.

I sighed.

'Can you read memories?'

'Yes, but it will require a lot of your mana,' she said cautiously.

'Fine. We'll do it tonight,' I decided.

'Do what?!' she shrieked, startled.

'The memory reading,' I clarified. 'I'll let you read my memories so you can understand what I'm talking about. Unless, of course, you don't want to?'

'Oh... that's what you meant?' she mumbled, sounding embarrassed.

"Wait. No way. Don't tell me centuries of solitude have made you that desperate?' I teased.

'Shut up!' she snapped, her cheeks turning crimson.

'Alright, I'm not that cruel. But you'll have to beg me for it,' I thought with a smirk.

'I'd rather die, you horny dog!' she shouted, before she transformed into a stream of light and disappeared into the earring.

Well, that was new.

"Um... hello?"

I turned to see Liliana still standing awkwardly, her hand outstretched.

"Oh, sorry about that," I said, though I didn't shake her hand. She withdrew it, her cheeks flushing with embarrassment.

Please. She could fool anyone, but not me. I knew her game too well. This innocent act? A facade.

"Can I sit here while I wait for my friend?" she asked in a sweet voice, tilting her head slightly for effect.

"No. I came with a friend, and they wouldn't appreciate you sitting with me," I replied calmly.

"But it'll only be for a little while," she pressed, her voice softening even more.

"My answer remains the same. No," I said firmly.

She stared into my eyes, her expression unreadable.

"Please?" she whispered, her voice strangely intoxicating.

"Huh?" I tilted my head, noticing the man seated beside me glaring daggers in my direction. The girl next to him had already left, but he didn't seem to notice—his attention was solely on me.

Was she seriously trying to manipulate me with her ability?

"I won't repeat myself," I said coldly, refusing to yield. Her innocent facade cracked for a split second, revealing cold, calculating eyes beneath.

"Excuse me. I'd appreciate it if you stayed away from my boyfriend. I don't tolerate whores around him," came a familiar voice.

I turned to see Selena standing there, smiling sweetly but with a sharp edge to her tone.

"No, you misunderstand. I was just greeting him. After all, we're in the same class. You are too, right?" Liliana said, trying to sound friendly.

"Regardless, let this be a warning. Stay away from him," Selena said, nudging Liliana aside before sitting down next to me.

Liliana hesitated for a moment, her gaze flicking between us. Then, without a word, she turned and left the café.

Didn't she say she was waiting for someone?

"You sure took your time," I said, ignoring the confrontation. Honestly, I preferred it if Liliana stayed out of my way.

"Girls need time to look pretty, you know," Selena said with a cheeky smile, her usual self once again.

"Alright, let's leave,"

"What?"

"You were worried about curfew, weren't you? Let's go," she said as she hooked her arm around mine.

"Well, you're right. But I thought you were enjoying this... date,"

Her eyes widened, and then her smile grew.

"You actually thought of it that way?" she asked, raising a brow.

"Well..." I just shrugged.

"Fine. How about this—we can eat at my place this weekend. I'm a really good cook," she offered as we walked out the door.

".... Alright," I agreed.

Tomorrow would be busy with general alchemy class anyway.

"Wait," I said, stopping her.

"What?"

I reached forward and touched her collar.

"Isn't this blood?"

"Blood? Why would you think that? It's just lipstick," she said, feigning innocence.

Did she really think I was that much of an idiot?
