章 1: Chapter 1: First Encounter
In the fervent June, the somber canopy of the sky was cleaved, accompanied by flashes of lightning and thunderous roars, as a deluge swept across the entire Yucheng.
Approaching the early hours, the villa nestled on the mountainside of Yushan was ablaze with lights.
A doctor clad in a white coat hurriedly pushed open the hefty door of the room, striding briskly towards the man in the corridor. "The other party is quite difficult; it's challenging to draw blood from her..."
Ji Chen raised his hand, his gaze piercing. "Continue to persuade her, persuade her until she consents to the bloodletting..."
The doctor hesitated in his white coat. "She insists on seeing you, or else she threatens to jump from the balcony. You know, we don't have time to waste."
Meanwhile,
Outside the villa compound, the grating sound of brakes pierced through the rain curtain. A man descended from the car, taking the umbrella from the bodyguard's hand and walking into the downpour. A lightning bolt, bright as daylight, illuminated his visage, which was as cold as midwinter frost.
At the doorstep, Ji Chen's assistant took the umbrella from him, bowing slightly. "Sir—"
The man didn't bother to adjust his dampened shirt, stepping quickly towards the staircase, his icy thin lips almost forming a straight line.
At the first room around the corner on the second floor, as he approached the door, voices emanated from behind the partially closed door:
"If you push me further, do you believe I will really jump? If I die, the person you want to save will have no chance either."
"Miss Liang..."
The woman's icy voice resounded, "I want to see Mr. Gu Hansheng. I need to negotiate terms with him!"
"Knock, knock—" the sound of knocking echoed.
In an instant, the door was pushed open, and all eyes in the room focused on the doorway.
It was in this chaos that Liang Shu saw Gu Hansheng for the first time.
At that moment, her hair was disheveled, her clothes dampened by rain, clinging to her body. Her stunning face appeared somewhat pallid under the bright light.
On the corridor, the man, dressed in black, tall and slender, with one hand in his pocket, looked at her impassively.
Liang Shu bit her lower lip slightly, locking eyes with him. His black eyes seemed so deep, as if they could engulf her at any moment.
He stood there quietly, his eyes swirling with dark ink-like shades, a heavy mist shrouding them, even the curve of his thin lips was chilling.
As he stepped towards her, she grew apprehensive.
Her fair fingers tightly gripped the doorframe leading to the terrace, feeling the rhythm of his footsteps on the ground, one after another, as if treading on her heart.
All the people in the room silently retreated, leaving only the bodyguard standing at the door.
Gu Hansheng, standing a meter away from her, looked down at her from a height, a cold mockery creeping into his eyes.
His tone, however, remained unhurried, reciting her name as if pronouncing judgment, "Liang Shu, without status or background, a person raised in the darkest corners of Yucheng, with countless blemishes on her record..."
He paused, a sneer flickering in his eyes, then leaned slightly, his fingers accurately pinching her chin, exerting pressure slowly. "With your market street background, what qualifications do you have to negotiate terms with me?"
She detested being manipulated, even if this person stood at the pinnacle of Yucheng's hierarchy.
Her fingers overlapped his, and Gu Hansheng glanced down, but did not immediately shake her off.
"If I jump from here right now, not only will I die, but the person you wish to save will also perish."
Gu Hansheng let go of her fingers, a cold scoff escaping him. "One life for three, not a bad deal."

The woman widened her eyes, the red mole at the corner of her eye seemed to come alive, she hadn't expected him to be so ruthless towards her.
