As I expected, the sect leader has temporarily entered his physical body to meet with us. Honestly, I don't feel much when I meet the sect leader, other than respect. After all, I only got the chance to meet him twice in my previous life.
"Sect leader, I wished to become Elder Un-Ju's direct disciple after hearing he could accept a second disciple, because I thought it would be a waste for someone who spent their life seeking the way of Tao to not become a direct disciple."
"So, you were planning on entering the sect normally until you heard that Elder Un-Ju could accept a second direct disciple. Is that correct?"
An overwhelming presence filled the room as the sect leader stared into my eyes. Even in my past life I never felt this type of presence from the sect leader, so why is he showing me this side of him now?
"Y-yes, sect leader."
Moments would pass, yet the sect leader's presence had yet to fade. However, out of nowhere he looked at Master Un-Ju and opened his mouth.
"Elder Un-Ju, please take miss Il Ji-Soon outside for a moment. I would like to talk with Ryu Il privately."
Master Un-Ju looked on with his face contorted with confusion, only to nod his head a moment later and guide Il Ji-Soon out of the building.
As the door slid shut, I felt the sect leader's energy envelop the room around us.
It was a common trick that cultivators would use to prevent important information from leaking out to those who shouldn't be hearing it, as the energy barrier only allowed sound to be heard by those within it.
But why was he using such a technique in a meeting with me? Is it because Master Un-Ju or Il Ji-Soon might try to listen in on the conversation?
"Ryu Il, I want you to be completely honest with me. Have you had an encounter with the Other Side during your life, or rather, a past life?"
"No, I hav- WAIT WHAT?!"
Does the sect leader know about me being sent back into my younger self's body? No, how could he? There must be some reason why he's bringing up the Other Side to a child.
"So, you have had an encounter. Now, depending on how you answer this next question will determine if you are allowed to enter the Mount Song Sect. Do you understand?"
Shit, he really knows about my attempt to enter the Other Side in my previous life! And he's hurting my chances of Ascension by threatening to not let me into the Mount Song Sect, I guess I must answer whatever he says truthfully, or else I might lose everything.
"Yes, sect leader."
"Good, now. Why do you, a mere ten-year-old child, have the energy of the Other Side lingering on your martial soul? Are you someone who descended from the Other Side like me? Or something else?"
It would cause a major upset within the Mount Song Sect, no, the whole world if it found out someone had returned from the future to live their life once more. But the sect leader is the sect leader, he's someone who's returned from the Other Side too, so I can trust him, right?
"Sect leader, the truth is, I've lived this life once before. At the end of my previous life, I reached the Other Side, like you and the other members of the Mount Song Sect did, but for some reason I was thrown out, and when I awoke, I was back in my younger self's body."
"So, that's why you have the energy of the Other Side still lingering on your martial soul. At first, I thought you were an emissary of the Other Side sent to bring me back, since I had been so reluctant to return."
"Ah, no I'm not here for such a reason. I just want to enter the Mount Song Sect to ascend once more, even if it takes me another five thousand years."
"..... What?"
Oh no, I just said something I probably shouldn't have, didn't I?
"Uhmm, please act like you didn't hear that sect leader, hahaha."
"Five thousand years, that's how long you managed to stretch your immortality without ascending?"
The truth is, when you become an immortal cultivator, you're not truly immortal. We only get called immortals because of our nearly unchanging physical appearance, and our impeccably long lifespans. But no two immortals live the same amount of time, some live only a mere two hundred years, while some like me make it several millennia before dying or ascending.
Though, I guess since the sect leader already knows about my return to this life, he should be allowed to know how long I lived.
"Yes, sect leader, five thousand years is how long my immortality lasted, and if it had not been for my choice to ascend, I would have lived much longer."
"For such a long lifespan as a disciple of the Mount Song Sect, you must have trained many disciples as the sect leader in the future."
"I only managed to find two people in that time to become my disciples, both a thousand years apart from each other."
"Only two... What happened to the Mount Song Sect then?"
Shit, I can't let the sect leader keep asking me these questions, people start to know too much about the events of the future, more erratic and unknown possibilities could happen.
"Sect leader, I can't tell you anything else about the future unfortunately, if I speak too much about what has yet to occur, it won't happen."
Time is such a flimsy thing, so flimsy in fact that humanity can't even grasp how flimsy it was. They had all sorts of theories about whether time was simple and straightforward, or if it was complex and ever changing.
But time is just time in my eyes, whether it's the future, the past, or the present. Time is just time, and with time comes the unknown, but what I do know is this, the more you bring knowledge from one time to a time it shouldn't be, the more unknown things enter with it.
