I can almost already forsee all the comments about how much Lex messed up by not focusing on the quests :P give him a break guys, it's a learning process. Only by making mistakes will he learn what to prioritize - he was focusing on the things he thought were important at that time. Since you're with him in this phase where he is making mistakes and messing up, in the future when he's at his peak you will appreciate him even more. Also, you can already see the shift in his personality from someone who spent his free time gaming and snacking to someone who is practicing. If the change is gradual, it is more realistic rather than one incident suddenly turning him into a super focused OP MC :P
