Chapter 30 - Learning Battle Techniques
[Deducting one ink drop… Do you want to read or assimilate 'Basics of Swordsmanship?']
"Read," Jhin replied as he waited for the window to appear.
A loading screen appeared on the interface before revealing countless texts. After learning the correct order of the book, Jhin started reading the content.
However, he barely read for a few minutes before he decided to stop.
He couldn't comprehend the content inside!
He could understand some parts but, it just left him confused. It was as though he was a man in stone age being introduced to science.
"Damn it! Assimilate!"
[Deducting ten ink drops… Starting the assimilation process…. Successfully assimilated!]
Surged of information flooded his mind as he felt a sharp pain in his head.
The things he couldn't understand from earlier seems to become so easy now that the knowledge assimilated in him.
"This is a cheat!"
He felt that if he is given a sword right now, he could wield it and perform the stances and strikes in the scroll.
The discovery made him relieved. If he could learn everything this way, then his problems would lessen.
After confirming that he had really comprehend the content of the scroll, Jhin let out a smile and started translating the other scrolls.
In total, he was left with twenty-seven ink drops after he translated the books and assimilated the basics of swordsmanship.
After browsing for a while, he spent seventeen ink drops translating the scrolls. Leaving him with only ten ink drops at his disposal.
Still, he wasn't worried or regretted his spending. Instead, he felt that it was worth.
"System, assimilate the 'Basics of Archery'"
[Deducting ten ink drops… Starting the assimilation process… Ding! Successfully assimilated!]
Like the swordsmanship, Jhin quickly learned the content of the scroll. The scroll depicted countless diagrams, ideas, and information about marksmanship. He understood the basic stances, grips, as well as shooting. What he was lacking however, was practice!
"Knowledge without application is useless." Jhin sighed as he pondered what his next course of actions would be.
If he wanted to master archery or swordsmanship, the only option he has was to practice. But, he couldn't practice right away, he was facing two problems.
First, he lacks the equipment; he doesn't have a sword nor a bow. Second, he had no idea where to practice.
Thus, he was left with no choice but to read the translated books again. Looking for information that could solve his problem.
After almost an hour, Jhin finally closed his eyes and started planning.
From the books, he learned of the introduction about the Tower of Death, the tower which healed his injuries.
The Tower of Death was created by the Death God for the sake of training the soldiers. It was divided into halls and was full of training equipment.
If he wanted to train his archery, the best choice would be to enter the tower. But, only soldiers could enter the tower.
Well, entering the tower wasn't a problem to Jhin, he has Lucy's note. But, he doesn't want to meet her yet!
He hadn't sorted out his thoughts towards their relationship yet. If possible, he wanted to improve his strength first before meeting her.
And judging by the note she left, it was obvious that he was inside the tower.
"To enter or not?"
Jhin scratched his head in frustration. Aside from the tower, the only place where he could train was outside of the shelter. He could buy the required equipment but! He doesn't have death coins- the currency of this world. Also, going outside would be dangerous since no one could protect him.
There's a great chance that he would be attacked!
Thinking of the countless possibilities and countermeasures, Jhin recalled his inventory.
"System! I want to see my inventory!"
[Inventory: 6/10]
1. Treasure Chest (3x)
2. Mana Crystals 2356 pieces
"I think it's time to use that," Jhin clicked his tongue. "System, I want to open the treasure chest containing food pellets."
The moment his voice fell, a treasure chest materialized in front of him. The instant he opened it; a revitalizing fragrance gushed out and filled the room.
Admiring the sight, Jhin flicked his wrist and the Infinity Gourd appeared on his hand. Unplugging the cork, Jhin put his eyes on the opening and looked inside.
Except from a drop of water at its corner, the gourd was totally empty. He took ten food pellets from the chest and put it inside the gourd. Then he looked around the room before walking towards a barrel.
He opened lid and looked inside. The barrel was full of crystal-clear water.
Cupping a handful of water, Jhin put in into his mouth. It slid down his throat, leaving a cool and refreshing sensation. Although it tasted plain, Jhin could tell that it was a high-quality water. Much better than the most expensive water from his homeland.
With a contented smile, Jhin sank his hand holding the gourd inside.
The moment the gourd entered the water, a small whirlpool was formed. Water gushed as it entered the gourd. It didn't take long before a noticeable change could be seen in the amount of water.
Retrieving the gourd, Jhin felt that its weight didn't change. Puzzled, he looked inside, and was shocked.
"Where did it all go?" He froze. The gourd was empty except from the droplet from before.
Puzzled, he reversed the gourd and poured it to the ground. To his surprise, water instantly gushed out from the gourd. It fell to the ground, leaving behind an intoxicating fragrance.
Jhin quickly straightened the gourd. He looked at the water on the ground and sniffed it. He took a droplet and licked it. Instantly, his eyes suddenly lit up, "Perfect!"
The taste was like a nectar. It was sweet and refreshing.
He put gourd back into the barrel. Allowing it to suck the water inside.
It didn't take long before the entire barrel was emptied. All the water had entered the little gourd in his hand.
After emptying the barrel, Jhin scooped a handful of food pellets and put it inside the gourd. Then he shook it.
"Now, let me see…"
He poured a drop to his palm and inspected it. The droplet was crystal-clear. Sniffing it, his nose was assaulted by the revitalizing smell of the food pellet.
Licking the droplet, a warm feeling surged down his throat. It travelled throughout his body, and he feel energized.
Jhin couldn't hide his smile upon realizing that his deduction was correct.
"With this! I will have the ultimate weapon in this world."
Jhin was unsure how it happened, but it seems as though the gourd has a mixing property. The food pellet and the water he put inside mixed, creating a product with the properties of the food pellet and the water combined seamlessly.
Not only was it delicious, but it could also quench thirst and hunger.
Jhin put away the treasure chest. He looked at the gourd and said, "You aren't useless after all."
He caressed it as though it was a priceless treasure. Well, it was really a priceless treasure. Its ability to seamlessly mix two substance was top-notch. Jhin felt that if he could collect juices and add it inside the gourd, then there's a high chance that he would create a much delicious product.
Still, excited, Jhin was about to put away the gourd when… a chilly wind touched his hand.
He looked at it and realized that the gourd had disappeared!
