章 7: 7 . The Infinite Tower Part : 5. [EDITED]

LOCATION : IN THE FOREST OF GENESYIS

" Correct , the main reason I gave them the grenades was so that they could act as bait . Perhaps I'm wrong and the creatures aren't attracted by fire but at least if they are , the creatures will go to the bigger group first instead of us . "

Visibility was starting to decrease but Mika could still see the apprehension on Zoe's face .

She looked to be thinking about the implications of their actions but then , she shook her head violently and her gaze hardened . Yes no matter what , winning was all that mattered .

Mika nodded his head in approval . Compassion was a good thing . But having compassion for a potential enemy was pure stupidity .

" Do you hate the way I do things " Mika asked , more out of curiosity of how others saw his methods .

Zoe shook her head , what she thought did not matter . What mattered was winning . " No , I'm okay with it " She said refocusing on their journey .

The map icon was showing them as they traversed the forest . They were moving too slowly by his standards and that was to be expected , they needed to be careful .

30 minutes had already passed by now and the other contestants would at any moment start traversing the forest . If they were following the plan , Mika would be hearing a huge explosion any minute now .

'KABOOOOOOOMMMM'

With the distance they had traversed , you would think the explosion would not be heard very clearly and if he heard it , the other creatures also heard it

He could smell the slightly rotten smell in the air that travelled to reach them and that signified the next phase of the plan .

He pulled Zoe to the ground as the leaves above them started buzzing with activity .

Dark shadows were quickly jumping through the branches heading in the direction of the explosion , they looked to be in the hundreds as they nimbly traversed the upper trees .

Max had told them they were called night monkeys . How he got the information , he refused to say . Max had also said their major form of attack was throwing sharp stones .

This presented a weakness the monkeys had , their weak physique .

They staid like that on the forest ground , waiting for the monkeys to pass above them . Obviously , not all the monkeys would leave the area but he needed only the bear minimum to stay .

At least his plan had been proven correct , now that they knew the monkeys were attracted by the fire , the following events would be easy .

"Get on my back " Mika told Zoe while crouching down . They had already talked about this and the following event quickly took place .

Mika now carried Zoe who held onto the grenades , five hard thin javelins , which were secured onto Zoe's back and a makeshift torch which they had made by reaping a peace of his torn of shirt and filling it with the two explosive compound .

{Augment !} he started running at about 80% traversing the long distance in mere seconds . The surrounding became a blur as the dark surrounding darkened further.

It almost felt impossible how the surrounding was further darkening . His enhanced hearing caught the slight movements up above them and he knew the monkeys had already found them , keeping their movements hidden was of no point now .

" Light the torch ." Mika said silently as Zoe tapped the torch on a passing tree and the tree was engulfed in a pale blue flame .

It released a toxic black fume that filled the area they passed through , blinding the enemies from their location .

They tried aiming at where they stood but Mika was fast enough to avoid any projectiles before they hit him.

Before any of the rocks hit him , he had moved miles away . If things kept progressing this well , they would leave the the forest soon enough if he maintained this speed .

'KABOOOOOM'

Mika heard the second explosion and he was a little worried , did something wrong happen . By his calculations , the other contestants should not have used the second explosion so soon .

Irrespective of how overwhelming the numbers of the monkeys were , they were easily distracted by the blue flame he held and any intelligent contestant would take that opportunity to run as they were doing .

The fire was more of a distraction than an actual attack and it was doing It's job perfectly .

" Start throwing the grenades " Mika said increasing his augmentation to 130 % . they were already halfway past the 50km mark and his speed was only increasing .

Zoe threw the javelins attached with the small scale grenades attracting the night monkeys further away from them .

Parts of the forest started catching fire the blue flame spreading up to the top leaves . The night monkeys crowded around those points , beating the fire , probably in hopes of preventing their night cover from disappearing .

He could feel the toxic smoke from the other contestants start to catch up to him making it harder for the monkeys to spot them .

Everything was going well enough until he had a measly 15 km to traverse to exit the forest . His breathing was still calm and composed his limit a far of dream .

'FUUSHHHHH'

The wind picked up wildly behind him and Mika instantly knew he had fucked up . His head turned to look at what was happening and he saw a huge boulder headed towards him covering his entire vision .

Zoe on his back was shocked to silence , the threat of death had made her body still as she failed to warn him earlier .

{Augment : overclock }The world slowed down as Mika saw the huge bolder approaching at a slowed down rate .

He maneuvered quickly as he threw himself to the side as he quickly took Zoe in his arms and hugged her tightly .

'Crack ..crack...crack ' The boulder went past countless trees breaking them in half and continued forward . For the first time since entering the forest , light managed to touch the ground .

Mika turned to gaze at the monstrosity that had thrown the boulder and saw a huge gorilla , it's fur was jet black and it's beady red eyes stared at them in anger .

It moved away from where the light was and continued staring at them , in wait for their next movement .

The gorilla did something he thought was impossible . It stomped on the ground and the trees that had once been broken quickly regrew once again .

It then defied the laws of physics by jumping above them and crushing in front of their path , like a final hurdle they had to clear to accomplish their mission .

"How many grenades do you have left ."

Mika asked Zoe silently , he felt the adrenaline run through his veins and the hardening covering his arms , his vision sharpened and his heart beat violently in his chest .

He was using his innate ability to cause this changes in his body . He finally blocked of his pain receptors and increased the adrenaline production in his body .

Mika's goal was to achieve an adrenaline rush , a state that could potentially burst his entire heart . " 4 small grade grenades left "

Zoe took them all out and awaited his instructions. Mika still held on to the 3 heavy duty grenades and he passed two of them to Zoe .

" When I start running towards the gorilla , you will aim at the branches on top of it " He looked her in the eyes , silently keeping his focus on the gorilla .

Zoe nodded seriously in agreement . She knew now was not the moment for arguing . They needed to do this perfectly or they would die .

Mika saw her confident and he turned back to the gorilla , his full attention on it . His vision tunneled and everything disappeared .

It was only him and the gorilla now . Could Mika have run away , Yes he could have . But why did he remain and fight ?.

Anyone who could have seen the smile on his face would have known the answer .

Now that his emotional blockers were gone , a lunatic had been born .

His smile was blood thirsty and completely creepy a sort of demonic charm was now radiating off him .

Mika crouched low and readied himself , he had to time this perfectly . A second passed and then another as the tension slowly rose . . . .

"NOW !!! "

Mika shot forward and at that same moment , three things happened at once . The first thing that happened was Zoe throwing the two grenades at where he had instructed her , the launched grenade glowing a dull grey , a skill had been used !!

The second event that occurred was him releasing his killing intent , immobilizing the night gorilla and sending it's body into shock .

The final event that occurred was him launching the final heavy duty grenade he had at the gorilla's face directly at it's eyes .

The plan was beautiful , it was perfect and the results were even more outstanding .

'KABOOM , KABOOM, KABOOM'

'ROOOOOAAAARRRRRR'

Three explosions occurred at once , the first two explosions destroyed the leaf cover above the gorilla and a burst of sunshine illuminated the are . The next explosion struck the gorilla in the face , blinding it permanently as it roared in outrage .

[ Damage report : Explosive damage landed in the eye region . Stun effect aquired for 2 seconds , burning state aquired . True damage aquired at the eye region . Stun effect aquired for 5 seconds . Damage multiplier of 1.5 is in effect . Damage received =65×1.5 =97.5 damage ]

Mika was surprised at the new system function nut he did not mind it . His focus was still on the gorilla and at this very moment , he felt almost godly .

With how everything was playing out , as if providence himself wished for his success . His body was right below the giant gorilla and his focus was on it's unguarded chest . Luck truly was shining on him .

{ Augment : 150%} he felt his muscles over exert and enlarge as they could almost be seen moving in waves through his body .

He drew from his core strength and finally he did it . His hand blurred and he felt the rising heat through out his entire body .

{P. M. S PUNCH !!! ] 'BOOOMM'

All that was left of the gorillas chest was a huge hole with blood that spurted on the ground . The gorilla tried to roar and trash , but it's strength was quickly waning .

Blood rushed to it's throat finally chocking it as it stumbled backwards and finally crushed to the ground 'THUDDD'

[ Damage report : Critical strike achieved ]

Mika felt his arm burning , as if it had been placed in a furnace , the changes he applied to his body started to normalize as he felt his heart beat slowdown and his raging emotions calmed .

His pain receptors went back on and he felt the burning in his hand but chose to ignore it .

Zoe quickly approached , offering him support as he leaned on her . She was looking at the dead gorilla in both shock and amazement and why not .

How much damage did that one punch cause . Zoe looked at Mika as he breathed heavily in her arms . Could he only do that punch one time , most probably . She breathed out silently in relief . She had made the right choice in teaming up with him .

"Wait " Mika said and pushed of Zoe . He approached the gorillas body stumbling as he walked hurriedly towards it . His eyes had caught a dull green grow emitting from the body .

He started pushing aside chunks of its body and finally he picked a light green coloured key . It was cold to the touch and felt like it was made from a hard crystal .

He showed the key to Zoe and her expression faltered before she also calmed down . " We should leave before any one else arrives . " Zoe said as she once again supported him and they quickly walked away .

The remaining 15 Km they managed to quickly traverse . At the remaining 5 km , he was rested enough that he once again carried Zoe on his back and sprinted the rest of the way . The attacks of the night monkeys had disappeared and their journey was definitely easier .

Mika quickly arrived past the tree cover and for the first time since the fight , he felt the sweet touch of light on his skin .

In front of them stood a large group standing in wait a couples of meters away from the forest , they observed as sole figure approached slowly from the group .

Mika could have chosen to attack or tense his body in preparation of a fight but he did not do so .

This people first off had no evil intent towards him and secondly , he would be overwhelmed if he chose to attack them , they were significantly stronger than him . That was something he could feel instantly

Zoe was still on his back , her hands rested on his shoulders were digging into his shoulder telling him to be cautious . One person broke of from the larger group and approached him .

" What's going on in the forest ." The burly man asked rudely his cold dark eyes gazing at him in disgust . Mika turned to look back at the burning forest .

THe blue flame was spreading wildly through out the forest and a black smoke rose high into the air , clouding the atmosphere above in dark clouds .

" The other contestants made bombs and decided to burn the forest . " Mika said and the man was shocked by what he had said .

' It was a good idea to make that deal with Max . ' Mika thought . With how shocked the guy looked , this was obviously not the normal way contestants traversed the forest .

The man rushed back to the large group and spoke to a figure dressed in full body white knight armor. Their gender unknown .

Mika walked further away from the forest , heading to the side nearer the group but still fur enough for caution . He placed Zoe down to the ground and sat next to her as he waited for a message indicating the mission completion .

"How long do you think we'll have to wait ." Mika asked while looking at the large group still talking about something . He was processing completing the mission , what would happen next .

Another group suddenly appeared in a blue flash . They were dressed in all black and they wore hooded robes . They gave of a strange mysteriousness that for some reason attracted Mika's attention.

One of the figure gazes at the two of them and Mika felt as if he was being appraised as a sudden strangeness filled him .

The feeling stopped immediately the figure looked away but what truly confused Mika was that no matter how long he looked at the group , it felt like they were shrouded in a sort of Barrie that refused to let his eye gaze upon them .

Truly strange !!

Multiple other blue flashes appeared filling the area and bringing with them other groups.

Some of them went and approached the bigger group with the armoured dressed guy while others stood in silent and watched the forest .

" I think the mission will be completed when all the contestants exit the forest . " Zoe said while moving closer towards him while eyeing the large groups .

None of them approached , just looking at them curiously and some with pure malicious intent .

Politics was a cruel game , and one that he wished not to participate in with how weak he was .He could feel the tension rise with the appearance of the multiple groups , each seemingly conflicting in their intentions .

Finally , they could all here movement from the forest after a short wait . Mika was almost surprised by who walked out of the forest first .

It was Tony !! He looked to be injured as he limped out the forest while chuckling mildly to himself , he was quickly approached by the hooded figures and taken away immediately , disappearing with the robed group in a flash . Mika was confused by this.

The rest of the contestants walked out , all having varying degrees of injury .

Mika finally calmed down as he felt his heart relax . His HP was slowly rising from its initial 80 back to a full bar as he felt his tense body also relax .

" TONNYY " as they say , there is no rest for the wicked .

Max shouted from the top of his lung angrily before his group was also approached by other multiple groups . His voice disappearing into the crowd

Mika wondered why he was so angry. Did it involve Tony being the first one to walk out of the forest . Un expectedly , his eyes locked with Max's and Mika saw the anger return fully to his face .

" YOU TRICKED ME !! " He shouted out but he could say no more , he clearly knew he would be penalized if he spoke out .

Now that Max vad received his first reward of achievement points, he realized the mistake he had made .

Was it his fault that Max signed a deal without knowing the true value of the achievement points no , it was not .

That is why Mika waved while smiling happily at Max , his happy smile could not be hidden .

And why not had earned at least 12000 achievement points from Max's group and after he divided that with Zoe , half of that would be his !!!

Max continued glaring at him , attracting a lot of attention but that is all he could do . Mika and Zoe were finally approached by once again the man from earlier .

He hurried them over to the large group which they accepted .

Some of the smaller groups started vanishing leaving the area . The man started explaining things to them .

" Haha !, okay newbies listen up First of all , you will be going over to claim your contestants I'd which will give you access to the infinity tower facilities and also act as a key cars to the rooms the tower has. "The man said all this not sparing any of them a glance

The man was not really trying to explain but from what he could get from their interaction, he was quick to figure out that the man liked talking .

This larger group was the regional army for the place they were going to which was also undergoing their own mission by escorting them.

The man said that their 'great kingdom ' was built around the space that was signified as the hub area of the Infinite Tower , something that should have sparked wars but did not . Mika wonderd why .

He also said that their trial mission area had the highest surviving number contestants and asked Mika what he though about the whole event .

At that point the man had failed with the nonchalant attitude he was trying to put up . Mika had noticed the side gazes he was giving him but chose to ignore them

If the guy was trying to dig for information , he was doing a horrible job so Mika directly threw all the responsibility to Max and prayed for his well being

It was a surprise to him that they were more contestants than the ones in his group but not by much .

He looked around at his group that had faces it's own challenges with people he remembered from earlier not present .

The weak had been culled to give room for the strong . A natural occurence that nothing could prevent .

" Huddle up !! " One of the other knights in the group called out his voice male and authoritative .

Mika and the others approached them . Standing under what he could only say was a sort of formation under their feet .

One person among the knight group was holding a strange blue object that glowed dimly.

Immediately they all arrived in the formation, the object started beeping rhythmically with the formation and in an instant , they disappeared in a blue flash.

Next chapter we enter the first world but before that , the mc will buy some things , learn some new information and finally zoom of to the first random world

Any guesses for the first world .I will give you a second hint . The robots are from the future and they hate humans .
