Maya's heart raced in the dark room as she gathered the pins she had secretly collected from the lab. She had been planning her escape for what felt like an eternity.

"I think we are ready," her voice was almost a whisper.

The woman who had been helping her, whose name she still didn't know, stood up for the first time since Maya arrived from the corner of the room where she always stayed. Maya tried to get a glimpse of her face, but she couldn't, so she took in the woman's figure and noticed she was limping on one side. As the woman got nearer, Maya became scared because of how ragged the woman appeared to be. Not wanting to look rude by staring, she looked to the other side.

The woman cleared her throat, "Every door has an alarm. We should be careful not to set it off." Maya nodded.

"Let me have everything," the woman stretched out her hand. Maya quickly gathered the pins and gave them to her.
