"AHHHHHHH" A brown-haired boy yelled as he plunged towards the ground at breakneck speed. He had flown high into the sky on his broom, intending to show his friends a new trick he had learned earlier in the week, then lost his balance and was now falling to his death.
Arturo was stood down below watching it all occur with his two other friends on his right side.
"He fell faster than I expected" an amused voice spoke out. The two boys on both sides of him nodded their heads in agreement.
As this brown-haired boy yelled for his life, his body getting closer and closer to the ground, his friends laughed at his new 'trick.'
"I'm guessing this isn't part of his new trick..." the blonde boy said as he watched his friend scream even louder than before. The blonde covered his mouth in an attempt to hide his laughter.
Another boy, his hair as dark as Arturo's, who was standing beside the blonde, shook his head.
"When is he going to stop putting himself in these situations?" The boy standing next to Arturo mumbled to himself, loud enough for the two figures beside him to hear. Arturo snorted when he heard it because it was true, the boy would get himself into situations with life-threatening moments—sometimes those moments would include them.
Arturo's gaze shifted from his falling friend to the boy on his right, the boy who had just mumbled. He wasn't any better at not involving them in potentially life-threatening situations.
They've only been in school for two years, but they've been in life-threatening situations at least three times, which was not normal- it was stupid, how were a bunch of 12-year-olds managing to get into these situations.
The boy on Arturo's right, took his wand out just as the boy got closer to the ground. Without a word, he pointed the wand at the falling figure stopping him in mid-air and proceeded to lower him slowly to the ground.
"AHH- oh, thanks Rus!!!" the boy no longer was screaming seeing as his friend had saved him once again. The boy now landing onto the ground is one of Arturo's best friends, Ramón Manuel Alcon, a Spanish wizard. He had been sorted into Bellefeuille, one very befitting for him.
Arturo returned his gaze to the sky, wondering, "Where did your broom go?"
Ramón, too, was staring up into the sky, frantically.
"Damn it!... I guess I'll have to write another letter to Father..." He spoke glumly, his head bowed, having lost his third broom of the year. The boy just knew he would be getting in trouble with his father once summer appears.
The blonde boy, Arturo's other friend, approached Ramón and patted him on the back, perhaps a little too hard, causing Ramón to lose his balance falling to the floor, "Oi!" Ramón yelled.
"The trick was pretty lame, but it was funny seeing you almost die again- you should have seen your face when you were screaming haha it was like haha- Art and Drus saw it too, right, his mouth was like- Bahaha." After Ramón tackled him for laughing at him, the blonde collapsed to the ground.
Julien Boden Monet is the blonde, a French wizard; he was sorted into Bellefeuille, just as Ramón was. As Hydrus put it, they were the group's troublemakers.
Arturo turned his gaze from his friends wrestling on the floor to his right, where Hydrus was, and with raised brows asked, "I'm surprised it wasn't you falling off that broom with how dangerously you ride," his voice laced with amusement.
"I'm not that bad on the broom, am I?" groaned Hydrus as he turned his gaze to Arturo, his green eyes narrowing at Arturo.
His third best friend is Hydrus Jameson Peverell an English wizard who had moved to France when he was young. Whether by chance or on purpose, the four of them formed a group and have been best friends since their first year, all meeting at different times. While Hydrus was sorted into Ombrelune, Arturo was sorted into Papillonlisse, which meant that Ramón and Julien were in the same house, whereas Hydrus and Arturo were indifferent ones.
In realization, Ramón pushed Julien away, leaving Julien flat on the ground. Julien didn't bother moving, instead of staring up at the sky over the field they'd snuck onto, while Ramón rushed over to Arturo.
"Has the lesson already begun?" He had promised himself that he would try to arrive early to Mr Lavigne's class after making a bet with a friend, and now he was about to lose the bet.
Arturo's eyes widened. Ramón was right. He forgot to keep time. Hydrus flicked his wand that was still in his grip, with that done, the time was right there for them to see.
"We're 10 minutes late- C'mon" Arturo grabbed Ramón's sleeve pulling him along on the race to class.
"See you guys later!" Ramón called out to Hydrus and Julien who was still laid flat on the ground too lazy to get up, he found it to be rather cosy there.
Hydrus stared at the blonde who was sprawled on the grass, shrugging his shoulders, he himself laid down beside Julien bathing in the sun as both Arturo and Ramón left. He had no classes at that time but knowing Julien he did and wasn't going to attend no matter what he said.
Arturo and Ramón raced through the school's long marble halls. hoping to be the first of both of them to arrive at the ballroom for their dance performance class.
"Primera!" Ramón yelled in Spanish, his hand pressed against the large ballroom door, out of breath. Ramón collapsed to the floor, exhausted from the running they had to do to get to the school, then to the actual room of their lesson.
Arturo slowed down as he himself reached the door and took deep breaths to help his exhaustion.
"French! How many times do I have to tell you to speak French, Mr. Alcon? I last corrected you yesterday, and I told you that if I catch you doing it again, you'll be eating your dinner in my classroom." Said the stern man who had overheard Ramón speak as he was passing.
From the corner of his eye, Arturo could see other students quickening their pace, as they walked through the halls. He couldn't blame them, with Mr Moulin within the very same halls it was inevitable to get in some kind of trouble for the simplest things. He couldn't blame them; the man was good for finding reasons to give you detention.
The tall lean man stared at them with his dark piercing gaze. His hair as always was loosely tied back.
Arturo silently shook his head, wishing he could walk past the teacher and push Ramón off the door so he could open it, but he couldn't, especially since he was late for the lesson.
"Sorry, sir… I promise it won't happen again!" Ramón said out another promise. Another promise Arturo was sure the boy was going to break whether on purpose or by accident.
Mr Moulin sighed deeply, showing his disappointment, he then whipped his head to where Arturo was standing. Immediately Arturo stood straight at the attention, "Don't think I didn't notice you! Both of you are yet again late! Detention this evening Mr Carandini, Mr Alcon." With that said the professor passed Arturo and headed down the long hallway they had run through, his robes flowing fluidly behind him. He could hear the footsteps getting further and further as he walked.
Arturo rolled his eyes, the man had made it sound like he was late to all his classes. The man wasn't wrong, but he was good at coming up with excuses that would give him no consequences. The one other time he had been given detention was from this very man for being late to a class. You would think the professor had something better to do than stopping students every second of every day.
He was glad he had no classes with the man.
"I despise that guy," Ramón muttered, his eyes narrowing at the man's retreating figure. "Don't we all?" Arturo replied, turning his gaze to the door with a scowl on his face.
This will be his second ever detention, while for Ramón it should be close to his 20th.
Ramón turned his attention to Arturo with hopeful eyes, "You know what he needs? I have some itching powder-"
"-No! I'm not getting in trouble again, you can get in trouble with Julien, I'm sure Hydrus will join you if you drag him along." Arturo cut him off.
"But-"
Without warning the door opened, having Ramón who still had himself rested on the door fall flat sideways, have his body falling into the classroom at the foot of a person…Mr Lavigne.
"So, instead of attending my lesson, you've decided to lounge by the door?" they heard their professor ask. Ramón quickly pushed himself off the floor and proceeded to brush his hands over his blue uniform to get rid of the wrinkles and dust, while the professor watched through his glasses.
The man slightly pushed the glasses that were sat on his nose upwards on the bridge of his nose turning his gaze to Arturo who in turn gulped, the man's stare was nearly as terrifying as the one his grandfather had given him when he had broken his favourite vase he had in his office.
"At least you were standing on your feet." Their professor drawled out.
With Ramón standing beside him, Mr Lavigne looked both of them down taking in everything, his brows furrowed. "Detention this evening, the both of you. I was really going to let you off but seeing as you have failed the assignment of wearing your robes for this class, I can't ignore it." The man proceeded to walk into the class leaving Arturo frozen… 'robes' he forgot to bring his robes! How could he have forgotten?! He never forgets.
As Arturo was scolding himself for forgetting, nothing their professor seemed to say had actually proceeded in Ramón's mind, the only thing that had processed in his mind was the word 'detention'.
With an outstretched arm, Ramón chased after the professor into the classroom which had been set up for their dance class, "You can't give us detention! Professor Moulin already-" he stopped mid-sentence as he took everything, turning away from his professor he turned to his classmates, his classmates who were all dressed in their robes and gowns-
His face flushed in embarrassment as all heads turned to him, after his outburst.
--
After the incident of being late to class and being given detention from two different teachers, Arturo and his friend had to stay for detention longer than expected. It was obvious how used to is Ramón was, seeing as he put his legs up on the desk only to be scolded as if it was a daily occurrence.
"Art?" he heard his friend call out.
Turning away from his homework he looked into the pair of green eyes waiting for his response.
It was finally Saturday. He found himself going to the library to avoid both Ramón and Julien so he could get his work done in peace, with Hydrus following him wanting the same.
He hummed in reply as he rested his elbow on the table, allowing the side of his chin rested on his raised palm.
"Question" the green-eyed boy stated. That was a frequent thing he did, anytime the boy wanted to ask a question, he would call out 'question' for everyone's attention. It was always interesting waiting for his questions, sometimes they were ordinary and generic questions, other times they made you question your existence.
"…If there was an evil man, one that would destroy the very world as you know it, turning it to something no one should have to live through. A man that killed everything and everyone you had come to love and care for… and you were given the chance to go back in time in your last breath, the breath that very man took from you- once you time travelled, reincarnating into another body… would you kill the man before he could do anything- everything he had done?"
Arturo stared at one of his best friends for a few seconds with furrowed brows, taking in everything his friend had just asked. Still bathing in the silence, Arturo ran his hand through his hair, pushing the strands that fell forward back to their place.
He leaned back into his chair pondering what he would do, finally after having an answer he smiled at his friend and shook his head.
"No… I wouldn't kill him- at that moment in time it might seem like the only thing I could do, but it shouldn't be."
Hydrus looked taken back by the response, "You wouldn't kill him?! …why?"
Arturo rolled his eyes, "Well, it's obvious, isn't it? This 'evil' man as you say it, has yet to do the monstrous things that would eventually happen. Going back in time, before the man has yet to do so much and killing him wouldn't be fair. Everyone is given a different path to take, each path very different from each one."
He then held one finger up, "Yes, different paths, but just one individual path, a path that has many ups and downs. It's up to that person, for which type of path their journey will be. Most of the time it isn't the person's fault but the people they meet on the way, the way they were raised, how people treated them, hurtful words that could have been thrown at them. Every single moment counts for how the journey before us with become- don't you think?"
Hydrus was silent for a moment but nonetheless nodded having taken in the words, "I suppose your right… so with being given the chance to change everything… instead of killing him, you would change his path, prevent everything that had caused his path to turn into something dark… into something much better- brighter?"
Arturo smiled and nodded with a shrug to follow, "Yeah, pretty much. I mean if someone had gotten so evil to the point of world domination or whatever, they must have had a pretty shitty childhood, or maybe just a very misunderstood one. Children see things very differently from adults. We are all raised differently, meaning we'll all have different habits we could pick up, different opinions, it just depends on the luck you have to be born into a certain family, if born into one at all."
Hydrus stayed silent, as his friend continued on, "But then again, having gone back in time… I'm not sure how to put it to words but I guess it will only create a paradox? Another universe, one where everything can be very different from the future I would know."
"A paradox?" he chirped in with curious eyes, wanting more to be said.
"Yeah, everything as we know it wouldn't be the same… like what if Julien no longer exists in the future because of my existence in the past. Everything I do will change every course of the future; people that would exist in the future will cease to exist by my actions. Let's use Julien as an example, his parents first met in a book shop. I could one day go to a book shop just to find a book, and a stranger could walk up to me to ask a simple question, wanting to know where they could buy a certain book. I could know exactly where that book is, and I could tell them instead of them having to go to different shops until they find it, which would change everything. What if that stranger was meant to go to a particular book shop when looking for the book in order for Julien's parents to meet? That stranger could be the reason for the meeting, maybe if he fell and accidentally pushed Julien's dad into his mother creating that future with Julien in it. Although if I were to tell the stranger where to get the book, they would never end up going to that shop that would have his parents meet for the first time because he wasn't there to push his dad into his mother so they would both go on about their days, creating a new future with no Julien."
"…Um, well- I didn't think of it that way… that's interesting," Hydrus said slowly, it seemed something clicked in his head only for his brows to furrow which confused Arturo… had he said something wrong?
Although that seemed to come to an end when his friend lifted his head up with his smile back on his face, "I'm sure Julien will love to hear you've thought of a possible future where his existence is non-existent, he'll be on your back for weeks" he said with a snort to follow.
Arturo burst out laughing knowing that would most likely be the case. As he stopped laughing, he turned to his friend with a curious gaze, "What's up with that question?"
Hydrus tensed slightly, which went unnoticed by Arturo. Hydrus shrugged his shoulders with a carefree smile, "It was just an interesting concept I thought up… I was just curious how you would do things."
Just as he did, Arturo shrugged his shoulders as well, not exactly caring why he asked, it truly was an interesting question. He turned his gaze back to the work he had at hand, with his quill now in hand as he continued to do his work that was due the very next day.
