章 21: 21. Chapter 6.5

Omen's POV

"Huh?"

I looked around me.

It was a foggy white space just like those scenes from a movie when someone was in between life and death. Remember the scene how Harry Potter was talking to Dumbledore after getting 'Avada Kedavra' ed by Lord Voldemort in "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" book.

Yup, just like that.

I'm pretty sure I am not dead.

"Wasn't I watching the singer singing?"

A faint trickling of water was heard nearby. There was a soft tremor like some humongous beast had stamp their feet on the ground. I tried to access my powers but frowned when something had block me. I couldn't talk to my mesias or even summon Corvus.

Shrugging to myself, I decided to move cautiously towards the sound of water as it was the only thing within the foggy space. It took a while to reach the source. When I reached it, the fog cleared up a bit to reveal...

A fish tank.

"…"

I stared at it with a deadpan look.

The goldfishes inside just wobbled around in the water with their mouths opening and closing. I stepped closer to observe the tank and found that there was a water plant next to a decorative log. There was a sudden movement inside it only for me to find a suckerfish lazing in there.

"Daddy, the fishes look really fat."

I turned my head to the left in surprise to find a little girl not more than 7 giggling at them. She had her black hair tied up in a ponytail and was wearing a shirt with short pants. Her dark brown eyes stared at them with wonder and awe.

"How did you...?"

"They are, don't they?"

A chuckle of a man was heard from my right. I stared at the both of them with wide eyes. When he reached out to pat the girl's head, his hand passed through me.

I gasped in shock and stumbled back.

"What's happening?"

Then, the girl tried mimicking them by putting her hands at the side of her puffed up face and flapped them while moving her lips. The man chuckled at her ridiculous face.

At that moment, the scene before me changed.

Now the girl was slightly older, probably around her early teens, she still wore the same hairstyle and retained her childlike curiosity at the fishes. However, instead of goldfishes, there were guppies swimming around.

"Look! There's baby guppies!"

She gasped in wonder and pointed excitedly at the spot in the submerged water plants where the babies swam in and out of the leaves. Some even courageously swam a few inches away from their place to explore the area before speeding back to safety and out of harm's way.

This time, there were more people appearing around the fish tank to gaze at the unexpected addition of fishes in it. There was an older woman and 2 men who seemed to be in their early twenties.

Could they be her mother and her brothers? But… why can't I see their faces clearly?

Just like the girl's father, their faces were shrouded in mist. Subsequently, the scene was replaced by another one. To my surprise, there was no one near the tank. There were no fishes in the tank either. Or even water.

But there was a new addition.

There was a beaded yellow goldfish hanging at the side of the tank. It sparkled under the light of the fish tank and seemed to be moving about in the air despite the lack of wind.

"That goldfish..."

I turned my body around in alarm only to find the same girl. She gazed at me with an awkward expression. Now, she looked to be in her late teens, with the same ponytail and a pair of half-framed spectacles sitting on the bridge of her nose. She was dressed casually, with blue jeans and a white shirt with a jacket.

"Could you help me find it?"

She wistfully asked with her head lowered. Her hands tugged in the pockets of her jacket, her canvas shoes rocking on the balls of her feet.

"Wasn't it hanging at the side of the tank?"

She shook her head.

"It's just a memory. I can't touch it at all. Can you... help me?" She asked again with an expectant look.

I turned around to find that both the tank and the goldfish were truly gone. I looked back at her with narrowed eyes.

"Who are you? Why am I here?"

There was a flicker in her eyes. So quick that I nearly missed the flash of darkness hidden behind them.

This girl is trouble.

"The truth is… I don't know who I am. I… have been here just as long as you are alive. Somehow, the Alice letters connected you to me"

My ears perked up.

"The Alice letters? How?"

The mysterious girl shook her head. Instead, she looked at me with determinedly.

"Trust me. When you find the goldfish, the answers that you need will be revealed."

I really didn't want to help her. However, there was an air of familiarity about her and the memories. Besides, she must know the way out of here, having been here for so long. I sighed again. In order to find out more about her, I could only agree.

"Alright, where should I find it?"

She rubbed the back of her neck, her cheeks flushing with colour.

"Here's the thing. I... don't know where it is."

"WHAT?! Oh my... why did I accept this? I should be back in the circus, looking out for enemies and for the letter."

I covered my face. I felt like finding a wall and hitting my face against it.

"It will find you." She blurted out suddenly.

I looked at her through the cracks of my fingers and could not detect a single lie from her actions. So far, she has not lied to me but she withheld something. Unfortunately, I could not perceive the surface thoughts in her mind. She had blocked me from reading anything from her apart from her expressions.

"Besides, your mesias already found the letter that you want. I brought you here because you were under the spell of the Blue Singer. Now that they have subdued him, you can go back."

I widened my eyes in surprise.

"Err... Thanks?"

She grinned. My wariness against her lessened because she was revealing a lot more of herself.

"I'm not that useless, Omen."

"Wait, how do you know my name?"

Without answering my question, she suddenly looked up to the white borderless sky. As though sensing something, her expression turned worse.

"You need to go."

She pushed me towards a door, opening it with a snap of her fingers.

Now where did that come from?

"I will find you again after you found it."

Without giving me a chance to speak, she shoved me through. White light began to engulf my entire body.

~~~~~
When I blinked my eyes again, the whole tent was in chaos.
"What just happened?"
"Well, the blue singer is suddenly gone and someone set the animals loose." Virginia filled me in as she blink away her sleepiness.
A black bear came crashing into the tent and roared. That sent the crowds screaming for their lives.
"Guys, I think it's time to go."
Matty stood up while grabbing the sleeve of Sherlock's shirt. As if on cue, the bear turned towards us and ran straight for us.
"Run!" Amyus shouted.
He jostled us out of the tent while keeping note that we were not accidentally trampled by the desperate crowd. However, seeing us running away only fuelled its anger and made it run faster. As we tried to push our way through the crowd towards the exit, the bronze egg that Mike gave me tumbled out of my Guardian spatial ring.
Fear gripped my heart when I saw it rolling towards the advancing bear.
"Kira! Where are you going? Come back!" Virginia cried out when she saw me turned back.
"I dropped something, I need to get it back!"
"Just leave it!"
I ignored her words and sprinted towards the egg. I can't leave behind something so precious. Plus, it was given by Mike. He rarely gives gifts!
Without a thought, I summoned a huge wall of fire in front of the bear just when it was about to reach the egg. Unable to stop at the sudden appearance of fire, the bear crashed into it and roared in pain.
Once I scooped up the egg, I carefully looked over it to see that the five lines from the top of the egg to its middle have widened.
"Why the heck did you jump out of the ring? Now you're injured." I softly scolded it as I pat off the dust from it. "Who am I kidding? I'm even mad enough to talk to an egg. "
Then, I infuse a portion of my mana into it in hopes that it would seal back itself but it made the cracks widened by a fraction. I frowned.
Could it be that it was about to hatch soon?
"Keith!"
I hid the egg back into my ring before running back to the group.
"That was so dangerous!" Virginia scolded.
I smiled apologetically. "I'm sorry, it was a very important item of mine. I couldn't leave it there to get crushed by the bear."
"Speaking of the bear, that wall of fire was so sudden." Amyus said.
"Well, I guess someone dropped a match on the ground which so happens to have spilled oil." I gave a shrug.
"Lame excuse!" Envilia scolded.
Everyone scrutinised me. I gave a closed eye smile.
"Well, I guess we should hurry up and go because the animals are wreaking havoc everywhere." Matty spoke up again.
Everyone nodded and we picked up our pace to exit from the circus. Along the way, I suddenly remembered my earlier conversation with Envilia.
"Envilia, this couldn't be done by you right?" I mentally asked.
"An appropriate diversion was needed."
I sighed and shook my head.
"You guys..."
That was when I crashed into the back of Virginia like smashing into a wall of bricks.
"Ouch! Why did you st..."
