Hey, it's the author here, this is a little guideline before you start reading, you don't have to read it, but it could help later!
Definitions:
-Enhancers: People who are part of the 68% who have been enhanced. You will either be enhanced or unenhanced when you turn 15.
-Enhancement: The name of the ability of an enhancer.
-Academies: These are places where enhanced can apply to join, this is where they will be taught how to use their enhancements.
-Brilliance: A world energy that empowers enhancements, think mana in other novels.
-Diminishment: While enhancements are a scholarly term, this isn't. It's what happens when you use your ability too much, at all, or anything that recoils back at you when you use your ability. Think somebody who conjures fire burns energy much quicker, requiring them to throw up/become hungry after using their enhancement.
-Vessel: Something that can contain or enhance brilliance when used with an enhancement.
-Rats: The name the government assigned to homeless people, a derogatory term.
-Ghouls: People who have been disowned by the brilliance; this results in them losing their soul but keeping their powers. Basically, insane people who aren't affected by their diminishment and use their power until they die.
Ranking/Rating System of Enhancements, Ghouls, Vessels, and Enhancers:
First and foremost, I need to make it clear that Enhancements themselves are not reflective of the Enhancers grade, you can have a high-grade enhancement and be a deadbeat enhancer, everyone starts with the same power and different potential in this world.
Enhancers/Ghouls:
- 0 Grade (Nonenhanced)
- 1st Grade (2x the physique of a human, the same grade everyone is assigned after being enhanced)
- 2nd Grade (4x the physique of a human, plus they can now use their enhancement)
- 3rd Grade (Power is unique to the person)
- 4th Grade (Basically the top 1% of enhancers)
- 5th Grade (These people are super strong)
Enhancements/Vessels:
- Null (Nonenhanced)
- Dim (Bottom 10%, Unfavored by the brilliance, unique enhancement)
- Enlightened (The average grade of an enhancement, non-unique enhancement)
- Radiant (Above average, only 10% of people will receive this, non-unique enhancement)
- Illuminated (Top 1%, unique enhancement)
- Brilliant (Basically the equivalent of 5th grade, unique enhancement)
