My first challenge huh?
Thankfully for me, the villages don't disappear when I killed all of the inhabitants and I could use the advantage of having one single entrance to defend.
The goblins won't be able to climb on the walls which will force them to actually try and force their way through the gate.
The only issue is with the gate itself. Without a gate, I'll have to rely on my undead to hold the line, which is also a problem. I could use a tree and cut it just long enough to fit through the gateway. While it will not prevent goblins from entering the village, it will make their path more difficult. That will give us enough time to eliminate them one by one.
My archers will be mounted on the walls while the skeleton warriors will form a testudo at the end of the gateway.
I'll use fifty skeleton warriors for that, leaving me with 150. The remaining skeleton warriors will remain inside the village in case of an unexpected event or if the gateway requires reinforcements.
Another advantage of having an undead army is that they do not require anything to survive and can survive in most environments.
Looking around the village, I came up with a few ideas for tricks. The goblins will not arrive too soon, and the earliest they will arrive is in 2 hours. Giving me the necessary time to prepare for their arrival.
Thinking for a bit, I remembered some tactics used in medieval times. Digging pits that have sharp weapons in them.
I told my Nehekhara warriors to dig pits all over the place, and after a half-hour of hard work, I had most of the pits filled with weapons. I also covered the pits with some improvised nets I made out of scraps of cloth I found while raiding this village. Putting leaves on top of them restored the appearance of the entire area. And because the goblins were a stupid race led primarily by strong warriors, they would not notice my traps until it was too late.
With the pits covered and more than an hour left for us to prepare, I decided to do something really stupid that may just work in my favor.
The goblins will surely rush towards the gate and giving their numbers, they will surely try to force their way inside. My idea was quite simple and it requires just two things. A hole and an undead.
My entire Nehekhara legion is the same height, and I intend to bury them beneath a thin layer of dirt, where they will rise from beneath and surprise the goblins. By the time they will comprehend what a happened, it will be too late for them to counter my undead. And even if they kill the Nehekhara warriors, I could just summon them again.
I made the holes just half a meter deep and 2 meters long and after one long hour, I had my entire group of Nehekhara Warriors buried outside of the village.
Looking back on what I had prepared, all I could hope for was that the goblins didn't have anything unexpected in their arsenal.
The silent forest changed after a while. The air becomes heavier, and what was once a quiet forest is now filled with a variety of voices and yells.
The silence before the storm has just end and a bloody fight was about to happen.
As time passed, an awful lot of Greenskins marched out of the forest. While the majority of them were ill-equipped and would shatter on impact, I could see a small group of goblins dressed in armor and wielding better weapons. And, if I'm not mistaken, these goblins were their Big Boss bodyguards. There were only about a hundred of these elites, with the rest being rundown goblins armed with anything sharp enough to pierce leather or flesh.
When all of the goblins emerged from the forest, I noticed something that was clearly going to cause us a lot of trouble, two catapults hidden behind enemy lines, ready to fire before the goblin infantry attacks.
Just as I was about to think of some counter tactics against the catapults, a slightly bigger goblin walked out of the formation and looked at me, at least that's what I believe.
"I ain't talkin' for talkin's sake. My time's better spent killin' humies. If you want ta come and kill some gobbos too - then come. But don't be getting' in my or da gobbos way. I don't care 'oo's under me choppa, and if it's your skull instead of a stoopid humie, I'll laff just as 'ard! "
I barely understood a thing from what he said, but one thing was clear. He sees this fight as a sport.
Holding my weapon tightly, I waited for them to come.
Lucky for me, they thought that wood would be a good projectile and I agree with them. But this type of ancient projectile would work only against some infantry. Throwing a wood log against a wall will not work.
Log after log smacked into the wall, barely scratching it, proving my point. You still need a brain to use a weapon that can end a fight or tip the scales in your favor.
Seeing that his catapults failed to open up another path, the goblin boss ordered his goblins to attack.
At first, the goblins yelled and marched as if they could easily kill us. Unfortunately for them, when they were about 300 meters from my occupied village, the ground opened beneath them, revealing the death pits that I had prepared ahead of time.
Goblin after goblin failed to notice the pits and died as a result. If a goblin survives the fall, his friends will almost certainly kill him when they fall on top of him.
While the pits were killing tens of goblins, a large number of goblins managed to get past that death zone.
At least 500 goblins had been crushed or stabbed to death by the time the main force of the goblins passed through the death pits.
I had my archers' fire only after the goblins had passed through the pits, allowing them to gather and form a large blob of goblins, creating a perfect target for my archers.
Volley after volley rained down on the terrified goblins. While some goblins attempted to provide cover fire with their bows, their inefficient and cheap bows proved ineffective and useless.
When an arrow or two struck one of my archers, the unfortunate undead was dispatched. Fortunately for me, my MP regeneration was sufficient to raise my undead in case they were killed slowly or unexpectedly.
As my archers were slowly killing the goblins, a group of ten goblins managed to sneak behind us, hoping to make a surprise attack.
Thank God, I was smart enough to let some of my undead behind or this attack could have dealt some serious damage.
After the death squad was dispatched, I turned my attention back to the frontline.
The goblins managed to arrive at the gate and they slowly made their wait towards my testudo. At first, they didn't notice the shield wall, but when five of them were instantly killed, the goblins start fleeing in fear.
Bad move I may say as they were pushed back by their own family. The goblins tried to swarm my testudo only for them to fail miserably, but as someone said: Good things won't last for long.
Their Big Boss walked in front of the gate followed closely by his bodyguards.
"Alright, boyz. 'Ere's da plan! We're goin' into dis lost village. But before we can rummage, we got to clear out all dem Undead fings. Give 'em a good kickin'! Once we killed everyfing, no one'z ta go lootin' until I say so. Dis is my plan, so I get da top picks. I'm in charge now, an' I need a shiny Boss-'at! Anyone 'oo disobeyz will get a boot up dere backside! "
His goblins start yelling and charging once more, but this time his bodyguards are leading the charge. Despite all of his losses, the Goblin Big Boss was determined to kill me.
They managed to drag the tree that I had stuck inside the gateway with the armored goblins leading the charge. Sadly for them, some unlucky goblins were crushed to death when the tree fell.
Without the tree in their way, the goblins swarmed the gateway, steadily pushing my undead back. The armored goblins' impact was felt the moment they collided with my testudo. Those goblins slowly destroyed my undead one by one.
I had to use the Nehekhara warriors because the goblins had gained a good foothold and would soon break through my testudo.
Fortunately, the goblins had gathered near the gateway and were slowly pushing each other. With such a vulnerable target, I ordered my hidden warriors to rise and backstab the goblins.
While I planned to flank the goblins, I didn't expect them to be so stupid as to attack with their entire force blocking the entrance. The Nehekhara warriors rose one by one, and some of the lucky ones dragged some of the goblins to the ground, killing them with their swords.
By the time the goblins realized that something was attacking them from behind, more than five hundred goblins' bodies were laying on the cold ground. With two enemies attacking them, some of the goblins begin to panic and are quickly fled. While their back lines were massacred, the goblins and their big boss were destroying my skeleton warriors.
When one of my skeleton warriors was killed, the goblins opened a gap large enough for them to swarm through.
The first armored goblin that rushed through the gap didn't even have the time to notice his death when a death bolt vaporizes his body.
While I could spam the same spell as much as I like, my mana capacity will quickly become empty leaving me without the necessary mana to summon my undead.
If the gap created by the goblins wasn't bad enough, one angry Goblin Big Boss was surely troublesome. The fucker killed ten warriors with just one swing of his sword and if I'm correct he's most likely a low-class in terms of raw power.
Seeing his target, the goblin starts spouting more nonsense.
"Dose stoopid, boncy undead fings, fink dey can trounce all over our sacred ground. Dat burial mound iz Gork's property, not some fishy-smellin' lake-hag's- Bloomin 'at, stop whisperin' at me! Come on, humie, we're gonna fightz !"
Rushing towards the goblin, I raised my Naginata and aim at his body. When my Naginata and his sword hit each other, the air around us was blown away.
While neither I nor he could deal a fatal blow to each other, while the amount of small wounds and scratches keeps growing on our bodies.
Slowly but surely the end is coming. The goblins were already killed and all of my surviving undead was surrounding us.
Putting all of my available mana into the next attack I swing my Naginata at the goblin head. When he saw where I was aiming, the goblin raised his weapon to block the attack.
What a dumb move. When both weapons collided, the goblins' eyes widened and they quickly lost their spark.
I used my other arm to gather a death bolt and bring it close to its hearth while he was focused on blocking my weapon.
Seeing that he was dead and all of the goblins were killed, I dropped my weapon on the ground, and soon I lost consciousness.
[Nicely done host. Don't worry, you won't lose your chance to loot the battlefield]
