"William, are you alright?" Isabella asked, her eyes narrowing with concern. She could tell something was off with William. He was usually so calm and composed, but today he seemed like a tightly wound spring, ready to snap at any moment. His lack of chatter at breakfast was a dead giveaway that something was bothering him.

They'd just finished breakfast, and Isabella had sent little Aimee out to play with the neighbor's kids. Sure, Aimee had made fast friends with them, but Isabella had another motive for sending her away. She wanted some alone time with William to get to the bottom of what was eating at him.

Plopping down on the couch next to William, Isabella turned to face him. With the Festival of Lights starting at midnight and it being a public holiday, William was home from work. It was rare to have him around at 9 in the morning, and she intended to make the most of it.
