Bang! Bang! Bang!
The officer pounds his fist against the wood again, making the door bounce on its hinges. Holy hell. If I didn’t know any better, I’d say he was trying to tare my bloody door down with his bare hands.
Thankfully someone had the good sense to have drawn the curtains before the cops had arrived, obstructing their view into my apartment. But with Poppy wailing on the inside, pretending not to be home wasn’t an option.
I glance back at Sam with wide-eyed panic. There was no mistake in my mind that the cops were here for him, not me.
“What the hell did you do?” I hiss at Sam, shoving my palms into his bare chest. Despite the bullet wound, he didn’t even stumble, only making my rage that much worse. “You led them right to us, you stupid fool!”
