Innocence rocked back in their chair, balancing it on two legs like it was the easiest thing in the world.
The big room where the Reverie Vanguard met was full of serious faces, but Innocence's eyes sparkled with fun.
*Hey there, imaginary friends!* Innocence thought, grinning inside their head. *Looks like we're about to hear all about the big bad guys.
Wanna bet how long it takes before I turn this boring meeting into a comedy show?*
"Innocence," Aria said, her face changing as always but settling on a serious look, "it's time you learned about our real enemy.
The one pulling all the strings in our world."
Innocence's grin got bigger as they spun a pencil super-fast between their fingers. "Ooh, string-pullers!
Let me guess - they're big, scary, and probably twirl their mustache while laughing evil-like?"
The captains looked at each other, trying not to smile.
Novus stepped up, little lights zipping around him like excited fireflies.
"The Oneiro Organization is no joke, kid," he said, his body changing to show a bunch of connected dots. "They're like a secret government, messing with both the dream world and the real world."
Innocence's eyes went wide with interest. "A secret government?
Now that's cool! Do they have secret handshakes? Or maybe cool spy gadgets?"
Somnia's hair moved, showing dark and scary pictures. "This isn't a game, Innocence.
The Oneiro Organization is everywhere in the dream world.
They control things from the shadows, changing everything to how they want it."
*A bunch of boring grown-ups playing puppet master with people's dreams?* Innocence thought, holding back a laugh. *Oh, they're just asking to be pranked!*
Out loud, they said, "Okay, okay, I get it.
They're bad guys.
But come on, they can't be all-powerful, right?
I mean, you guys are still here, doing your rebel thing."
Flux's body crackled like lightning. *They get stronger every day.
They want to control all dreams, to take away all the fun and crazy stuff that makes our world awesome.*
"But why?" Innocence asked, really curious now. "What's the point of controlling dreams?"
Enigma, who always looked weird and confusing, spoke in a spooky voice. "Control the dreams, control the dreamers.
Control the dreamers..."
"...control everything!" Innocence finished, feeling super excited. "Wow, that's a big plan. Gotta admit, they think big, even if they're bad guys."
Aria nodded, looking very serious. "And the boss of this group is super powerful.
He can do things with dreams that we've never seen before."
Innocence sat up straight, their chair legs hitting the floor with a thump. "Now we're getting to the good stuff!
Tell me about this big boss.
Bet he looks like something out of a nightmare, right?"
The captains looked at each other again, and was that... fear?
Innocence got even more curious.
"He has lots of names," Novus said, his body changing to show a shadow that made the air around it look wobbly. "But in the dream world, we call him the Reverie Sovereign."
*Reverie Sovereign?* Innocence thought, trying not to laugh. *Why not just call himself the Dream King and be done with it?*
"Fancy name," Innocence said out loud. "But what makes him so special?"
Somnia's hair turned into little movies, each one crazier than the last. "His powers are... really, really big.
He doesn't just change dreams - he rewrites them.
He can even change the dreamers themselves."
Innocence's eyes got super wide. "Wait, what?
He can change people?
How does that work?"
Flux showed pictures right in Innocence's head. *Imagine being able to rewrite someone's brain.
Change their memories, what they can do, who they are.
It's like changing someone's DNA, but for their soul.*
Innocence felt a thrill run through them, feeling amazed and... something else. Something familiar they couldn't quite figure out. "That's... that's incredible. Super scary, but incredible."
"Yes," Enigma said, looking even weirder than usual. "And he uses this power to get whatever he wants.
People who don't agree with him forget they ever disagreed.
Enemies wake up thinking they're best friends.
Our whole world bends to what he wants."
Innocence whistled. "Okay, I'll admit it.
That's pretty impressive.
But come on, there's gotta be a catch, right?
Nobody's that powerful."
Aria nodded slowly. "There are... limits. His power works best in the deep parts of the dream world.
The closer to the waking world, the less he can do.
And he can't touch the real world... yet."
"Yet?" Innocence raised an eyebrow. "Let me guess - that's his big plan? To control both worlds?"
"Exactly," Novus said, looking nervous. "If he finds a way to connect dreams and reality..."
"Game over," Innocence finished.
They leaned back in their chair again, their brain racing with ideas. "So, what does this dream boss look like? Bet he's all dark and spooky, right?"
Surprise! The captains all shook their heads.
"He looks... not what you'd expect," Somnia said, her hair forming a fuzzy picture. "He dresses like someone from the past in the real world.
The Victorian age, I think it's called."
The picture in Somnia's hair got clearer, showing a tall guy in fancy old-timey clothes.
He had a big top hat that made shadows on his face, but Innocence could see he had a little glass circle on one eye and a big, creepy smile.
*Well, well,* Innocence thought, grinning. *Looks like the big bad wolf's got style. I can work with that.*
"Nice outfit," Innocence said, nodding. "But what's with the huge hat? Trying to look taller or something?"
The captains didn't laugh.
They looked even more serious.
"The Reverie Sovereign is very dangerous, Innocence," Aria said in a stern voice. "He's super powerful and wants to control everything.
And he can be really mean."
Innocence waved a hand like it was no big deal. "Yeah, yeah, I get it.
Big scary dream lord, very strong, very evil.
But come on, there's gotta be a way to beat him, right?
That's why you've got this whole rebel group thing going."
The captains looked at each other again, this time with a little bit of hope.
"That," Novus said, ideas zipping around him faster than ever, "is where you come in, kid."
Innocence's grin got even bigger. "Oh? Tell me more."
Aria stepped forward, her always-changing face looking very determined. "The prophecy talks about someone who can fight the Reverie Sovereign.
Someone just as powerful as him. We think that someone... is you."
Innocence felt super excited, like they were about to go on the best adventure ever. *Oh, this is going to be fun,* they thought. *Dream lord versus dream thief.
David versus Goliath, but way cooler and definitely funnier.*
Out loud, they said, "Me against the big bad Sovereign, huh?
Well, folks, I hope you're ready for a show, because I've got some ideas that'll make his head spin. Old-timey style's cool and all, but wait till he sees what I can do!"
The captains looked at each other, seeming hopeful but also a bit worried.
This wasn't the reaction they expected.
"Innocence," Aria started carefully, "this isn't a game.
Both worlds could be in big trouble if we fail."
Innocence stood up, stretching like they didn't have a care in the world. "Oh, I know it's not a game.
It's better than a game.
It's the biggest prank ever, the greatest heist in the history of two worlds!
And let me tell you something," they leaned in, eyes sparkling with mischief and determination, "I never lose."
*Get ready, Mr. Reverie Sovereign,* Innocence thought, feeling more excited than ever. *You might control dreams, but I?
I am the dream.
And I'm coming for your fancy hat.*
"So," Innocence said, clapping their hands together, "when do we start? I've got a whole list of impossible things to do before breakfast, and taking down a dream bully just jumped to the top of that list."
The captains looked at each other again, this time with something new in their eyes.
Hope, yes, but also a bit of excitement. Maybe, just maybe, this wild card was exactly what they needed.
"We start now," Aria said, almost smiling. "Are you ready for the hardest training ever?"
Innocence's big grin was all the answer they needed.
As they followed the captains out of the big room, their mind was already full of crazy ideas, each one wilder than the last.
*Hold onto your hats, folks,* Innocence thought to their imaginary friends. *Things are about to get super weird and super fun.
The dream world won't know what hit it!*
And with that, Innocence stepped into the unknown, ready to turn the world of dreams upside down, inside out, and maybe even backwards just for fun.
The Reverie Sovereign might think he was the boss of everything, but he had no idea - the ultimate trickster had just entered the game.
