章 22: Sweet Angel

Behind the glass door was an incubator where an infant lay with closed eyes. The nurse beside it waved at Lucy and mouthed some words. But Lucy couldn't even bother to figure out what she was saying as she couldn't believe her eyes.

She hurriedly turned to Vanessa as tears gathered in her eyes. Her hands shook as she sought verification of her suspicion.

When Vanessa nodded to confirm the unsaid words, Lucy lost it. She pressed herself on the glass, feeling its cold and hard surface. She wished it would disappear so she could touch the baby.

Tears fell from her eyes, and her lips shook as she fought to speak.

"Is that... is that really my baby?" Lucy whimpered.

Vanessa nodded, crying with her. "Yes, Lucy."

Her legs suddenly lost their strength to continue standing. With Vanessa supporting her by the arm, Lucy looked at her child inside the incubator.

"Calm down," Vanessa said as she pulled up Lucy.
