Cecil Leywin:
"The Royal King has also ordered me to inform the Leywin family that both guards that attacked Arthur Leywin have been stripped of nobility." Said the representative.
"For almost killing my son, the King just gave them a slap on the wrist and waved them goodbye?" Dad said, trying to keep his cool, but we could see his frustration.
"Father, it's all right! Look, I wasn't hurt. Let's just end this matter." Arthur said, trying to calm him down.
After he passed out, we had a doctor check his condition. The doctor said he likely passed out because of shock and would wake up soon, but Mom was still worried.
The representative left, leaving the few gold coins he said were 'A token of apology' for the small incident.
We continued our day as normal, trying not to think about what happened, and the next day the Twin Horns came to the mansion for breakfast.
"So... Who's it going to be?" Dad asked after explaining that Arthur and I would be adventurers.
"Babysitting doesn't really fit my style, so I'll pass on this. Besides, I'm scared Cecil will attack me for no reason again." Adam refused, and I smirked at him when he looked at me.
"Come on, I was just two then and didn't know better... This time I would coat my fist in fire." I joked, but Adam seemed to have a flashback from our last trip.
"I would like to volunteer," Jasmine said while lifting her hand, surprising everyone but me.
We decided that in a week, we would go with Jasmine to the Adventurer's Guild to register, and I started thinking about what I should focus on during the four years.
While Arthur would be with us the first three, the last would be just me and Jasmine while Arthur goes to the Academy.
Arthur and Jasmine fight close range, so I could learn much from them while developing my own long-range spells.
---
A week quickly flew, and we were about to leave.
We celebrated Arthur's birthday yesterday, where he got the ring from the Helsteas and communication scrolls from the Twin Horns.
Mom also gave us both gloves with healing stones and one extra stone I helped make for Arthur's glove.
Me helping Lilia instead of Arthur changed things slightly. Arthur made a deal with Uncle Vincent to give him a share of his beast cores to get the items he needed, so he still had Dawn's Ballad.
"Ready?" He asked, looking at me.
"Yeah... I think so." I answered this would be a big step for me. Since we arrived here at Xyrus, I have been training, and now will be the time to test it.
"Good. Here, take this," He said while giving me a mask, "I want to hide my identity, and us looking almost the same would defeat the purpose."
Taking the mask, I looked at it.
It was a full-face mask with no holes for the mouth or nose, and instead of a blue half note printed alongside the left eye hole like Arthur's one, this one had five red stripes that looked like claw marks on the left side.
After a tearful goodbye, especially from Ellie, we left for the Adventurer's Guild wearing our masks.
---
"Welcome! How may I help the three of you?" The guild's receptionist asked us.
"I would like to sponsor them for a rank examination," Jasmine said, placing a piece of parchment towards the receptionist.
"Y-Yes! I understand. Please, come over this way." She replied and led us to Kaspian Bladeheart's office.
"A-Class Adventurer, Jasmine Flamesworth, has requested those... Gentlemen to be taken in for a rank examination." She told him.
"Yes. I'm quite aware of who Miss Flamesworth is. You may wait outside, Mary." He said and waved her away, and stood up from his seat. "Miss Flamesworth, how are you these days? I met with your father not too long ago."
Jasmine clenched her fists at the mention of her father and just gave him a nod.
He shifted his attention to us and introduced himself, "Anyways, it's a pleasure to meet you. My name is Kaspian Bladeheart, and I oversee this branch. I take it that you have a close relationship with Miss Flamesworth. Is there a name I can address you both?"
"I go by Note," Arthur answered, his voice changed by the mask.
"Hollow," I said simply, and the mask also altered my voice, but it sounded distorted.
Kaspian was clearly surprised by our voices but recovered quickly, "Yes! Well, Mr. Note, Mr. Hollow, we will proceed with Miss Flamesworth here as your sponsor. Do you know how this will work?" He asked us, to which we shook our heads.
"An Adventurer of B-class or higher has the right to sponsor a new adventurer for an examination. Depending on how well you do, this exam will allow you to be placed into a suitable rank. This way, you can avoid the needless struggles of starting from the very beginning. The rank exam will consist of only a practical portion. Now, judging by your equipment, I can assume that you are Mr. Note is an augmenter and Mr. Hollow is a conjurer, yes?" He said, looking at the sword Arthur had and the ring on my finger.
"Yes." We both replied. I plan to register as a water attribute conjurer, while Arthur would register as a fire attribute augmenter.
That's why I used a ring as a fake conductor instead of a wand or staff.
Also, I chose the ice element due to is my go-to when I use elemental magic and is the element I'm most comfortable with, followed by wind or fire.
"Okay! Usually, there would be a quick application along with an inspection of your mana core before the exam, but since it is Miss Flamesworth here sponsoring you, I will waive that," he continued as he opened another door at the far end of his office. "Mary, take them to the examination hall."
Mary led us toward the back door, where we entered the hall and sat down on the seats while watching the other examinees while waiting for our turn.
