"So, where were we?" Emma asked, smiling innocently, breaking the stunned silence in the hall.

Before she had spoken, a pin drop on the floor would have been heard literally. The hall was so still, until she had spoken, and until Claire's mother shouted at her.

"How dare you...you filthy human..." The woman was still ranting, when suddenly she got dumb. She tried talking, surprised at the turn of events, but she couldn't even open her mouth. She stared wide eyed at Emma, wanting to plead for mercy but for pride, confused on how to break free from her. She should have shut her mouth.

There were murmurings now. Emma could hear them, as usual.

"She has powers? What the fuck! How did that happen?"

"She is a witch?"

"Or a vampire? Don't you see the resemblance between her and the other girl?"

"But she doesn't smell like one. She smells like a human."

"I thought she was human. What just happened?"
