章 117: - Back to Base

It was moments after the voice fell silent in Gus' head that the alien took its final breath. Gus thought about what he had been told, and had only one question about the matter.

'Why me?' he thought, crouched down next to the fresh corpse of the Firstborn. 'Why am I the only one who can help them. I'll do it, of course. I'm not like the Evolved, I want to use my power to help those in need. But like he said, I am nowhere near. So why me?'

The other Firstborn in the room moved closer to Gus, with no real purpose other than to be closer to him. It seemed fairly meaningless, but to Gus it felt oddly comforting, like the warm embrace of a loved one after receiving some news that fills you with a bad feeling.

Once he was ready, Gus rose to his feet and headed back down the hall to the entrance. On the way, he opened up a channel on his comm device to those of his squad who were fighting off the Bloody Dawn.
